    Pics From Bodyshop

i went to the bodysop today to see how things are progressing with my car. i was pretty impressed to see how far they have gone with the repairs. the owner showed me where the factory joins are and how very little bondo they'll be using. while i was there i took some pics of a 2002 996 turbo that was rolled. every panel was replaced except for the roof. they done an amazing job on replacing both 1/4's and the complete respray was amazing. hope you like the pics.

It's painful to see your car like that, but I'm sure it will be good as new soon. I looked at the Porsche before I read your post. It looks great, I would've never guessed it was rolled.

I disagree with how they are replacing that quarter. They shouldn't have cut if off at the moulding. :chair:

They should have left the rest of the panel on and rewelded it at the factory joints. Not cut it in half.

The rest of it looks good though.

thats how the panel came. bmw oem part. i actually saw it for myself. but then i could be wrong. i need to go back and take a second look.

Well, before you get worried, that is an acceptable repair, we just never did it like that at our shop, it was almost always the whole panel, especially where your damage was located. Putting the full panel on reduces the amout of body filler you need along the joints, since there are none, and it's less invasive to the car.

It is quite possible that panel came like that, you would be surprized at the number of confgurations you can get body panels in.

i must admit i did wonder why the panel was so short. i didn't see where it was cut. normally you can see rough edges where the cut would be. but then i didn't examine it that well.

I wouldn't worry about it. I was taught differently, although I was told about other mythods to replacement, and what NOT to do.

well one thing he doesn't do is use tons of bondo. likewise i wouldn't want that type of repair to my vehicle. so trev you're a bodyman?

No, I was customer relations; actually more of an all-around person. I could do and know a bit of everything. But I had to know what I was talking about when I was explaing estimates and repair procedures to customers.

Let's just say that when I first started at BMW, I didn't know what an M3 was.
