    What would you guys do?...

It's finally come time for me to get serious about ordering my suspension and I plan on having it ordered within 2 or so weeks. Now, I need your opinions b/c I can't make up my mind. (Probably track twice a month, and curvey mountain roads are my pass-time and hobby  ) - I plan on this being a DIY

First option is to get Bilstein sports with H&R race springs. This will set me back around $870 or so for parts and will offer NO adjustability and probably pretty good handling, plus the springs are progressive so it won't be overly harsh.

Second option is to get the G/C Track / School kit with 500/550 springs. This will set me back almost $1200 for parts but will offer ride-height adj., adj. Koni's, and I can interchange springs for different rates. From what I've heard this will handle like a dream even if it is harsh (I'm young, if I wanted a nice ride I'd drive my parent's Volvo).

In the future I plan on turning this car into a weekend-warrior/track-car and will be putting on Moton Club-sport Dampers which will be pricy - would it be worth the extra pennies to step up to the G/C set-up right now and rock it for a few years? Please give your thoughts, I'm having some issues making up my mind, thanks!

If you are REALLY REALLY sure your going to track your car then I would definatly go with the G/C Track / School kit.

I'd go with the Tein coils personally.

The reason I'm really interested in G/C over anybody else is that I can pick my spring rates.

        Why do you suggest Tein's?

Teins are a quality piece for a decent price. They are all over japanese cars, and I don't here many of my friends complain about them. Not normally a sight on euro's as the coilovers haven't been out too long for our cars, but that doesn't take anything away from thier build quality.

I'd go with the coilovers. The ability to set them up how YOU want them is well worth the cash, especially if your hitting the track often. Shocks & springs seem more like a temporary upgrade for people interested in getting top performance out of their car.

              Huh?

Coilovers are coilovers, are cars you macpherson struts, just like 100's of other cars. We aren't even true rear coilover anway. Once you know the motion ratio of the rear supension its easy.

First coilovers for e36's came out 2-3 years after introduction.

Check out tc kline they have nice stuff, not as many options as GC.

the GCs are very streetable.. i have been wearing them for 23k+ and they have worked great.. i never ever even think about wanting to get rid of them.. i think i have 450/550's and have konis.. very adjustable and do the job very well.. suits my needs.. im sure they would suit yours too..

                  Huh?

                  Coilovers are coilovers

I believe he is specifically referencing the Tein coilover setups, which have only recently become available for BMWs. Tein does make an extremely nice product, and I have driven a few cars equipped with their trick EDFC system that allows for dampening adjustment from inside the cabin, but my only dislike is their characteristic noise whenever the spring compresses - it sounds like a tiny blowoff valve whenever you hit a bump or rough pavement.

Were I to be in the market for a new suspension setup, I guess it would have to be the TC Kline setup. Too many friends now have either chosen it - or switched to it from other setups - and do nothing but rave about its versatility. Good luck whatever the choice!
