Anyone have a kit from turnermotorsport for the 96-99 m3

One of my very good friends has one, and I can honestly say that the kit is worth every dime. There is a comparatively intoxicating rush of torque, and power that builds to the new redline of 7000+ instead of falling on its face over 6000 RPM. I believe his recent dyno was over 250 whp, and there is still room for more power with the addition of a nice set of headers. For the OBDII NA E36 M3, the (eurosport) Conforti/Turner cam kit is a fantastic upgrade.

I was thinking about that some Jet Hot headers, AA exhaust, and a AA track pipe and pulleys. Probably 330hpish?
I couldn't really venture an appropriate guess on crank HP. But some have gotten over 260 whp from the Cam kit/header combo, which does put you into the 320-ish or so crank HP range (unless my conversion figure is off) which is pretty damn amazing for an OBDII M3 - not barring the "monsters" that are out there running around the forums.
Your projected mods do have the possibility of being a potent combo!

I want 330bhp without really getting into the engine. Maybe down the road knife edge the crank. If that does anything.
why waste money on the crank?
Port the head and fit it with bigger intake valves. the engine is a big air pump, get air in and out more efficiently and you will make more power.

I ran an ERT crank pulley on my 3.0 and eventually the oil pump nut came off. Did the UDP have anything to do with it? Maybe. Turner Motorsport and a few other companies don't like the UDP's for many reasons BUT they actually do add power. The accessory pulleys.. eh... not so much. Porting and polishing and all that sounds real good. I thought about buying a "built" motor from Bavarian.. BUT who is going to tune it? It would have been a pain in the ass for me and who is to say it'll be reliable? Do you trust someone to do this for you? I don't :<

Bah. The oil pump isn't related to the crank pulley up front.
The problem with the 3.0 engine is the crankshaft is cast vs a forged crankshaft on the 3.2. This means the 3.0 engine's crank is much more susceptible to the extra virbrations that happen when you remove the harmonic balancer.
You can run a crank pulley just fine on the 3.2L. As for the oil pump, it's a design fault. Some loc-tite will fix it.

You have the right to believe whatever you want. Having said that.. I would point you to bimmerforums.com (dont have an exact link) but there are several threads that are tracking Oil Pump Nut issues.. and incidentally the last time I checked, more than 90% of those that had the issues had crank pulley's and they were not limited to 3.0 engines.
The harmonic balancer is key in an engine as long as the inline six.. it's not your typical motor and BMW put it on there for a reason. ERT (who is now out of business) fooled me into thinking it was safe to run the UDP, maybe it didn't have anything to do with the Oil Pump Nut issue, but maybe it did. Either way they are long gone as is a lot of the companies that used to make UDP's for our cars. Who is left? URI? Makes you wonder...

A most interesting correlation...
My oil pump nut blew off twice - once near home, once at the top of Bear Mt. in New Jersey during a BMW meet, and I too ran the ERT double-belt crank pulley for about 50,000 miles. Luckily enough I shut the car down both times as soon as the oil pressure light illuminated, so there was no time for any damage to be done. I got rid of the UDP a long time ago for a LTW flywheel setup, and while I do miss the power and TQ somewhat...so be it.

When I bought my new S52 from BMW through Will Turner (which I secured the nut on *haha*), he was Heavily against me running a UDP because of the issues he was having with them on his motors. Dinan also feels strongly against UDPs on BMW's and the list goes on. Will was so against it.. he put it on my invoice as one of the caveats of installing my new motor. I took heed to his warnings as I believe he's been in the BMW business a lot longer than I have known how to spell BMW. He's been there, done that and got the T-Shirt, and after that conversation with him, I sold the brand new URI UDP I had purchased 3 weeks before without ever installing it. I feel good about my choice  but as they say 'I think' "to each their own".

Yep. That would be enough for me as well. With his track experience, and the fact that he doesn't stand anything to gain by NOT selling you a crank UDP....it makes sense IMHO. Until this thread I was an advocate of the crank pulley, but from now on, when asked, I will definitely give up the oil pump nut as one potential serious caveat to the mod - Thanks man.
