faulty brake circut OR faulty tail lights???

I'm getting the message "brake light failure" on the OBC. The spoiler light works fine but the tail lights do not, even after new bulbs. When i bought the car it already had aftermarket tail lights installed so i don't know if they are crappy cheap ones or what. I've been told that if the spoiler light works then the brake circuit switch is ok. Is this true?

Yeah, the break light circuit failure is a common problem with these cars. What you need to do is purchase a brake light circuit switch and replace it. Really simple, takes about 5 mins to do.
