    New paint job??

Hi there everyone. I've been a reader of this forum for about a year now. I am interested in getting a new paint job for my M3 and wondered what everyone thought I should do. I just moved to the Northern Chicago area this week and don't really know where to take my beloved M3. My M3 is bone stock, but I'm here for an internship and therefore will be coming into some good money that in the past I've never really had much of. My car has the normal wear and tear of a ten year old vehicle, but I'm really interested in getting a full paint job. Any info would be greatly appreciated, i.e. cost, place (should I go to BMW dealer or other??) :nixweiss: Thanks again everyone.

I'll just refrence this since costs vary from place to place. While I was at BMW, when we did an exterior all over paintjob on an E36 convertable, the cost was right around $8,000.

WOW...that is a little more than I expected. I guess I'll just have to look into it a little more in depth. Thanks for the info.

thats REALLY expensive.. my buddy had his supra done by a shop.. was charged 5000$ and then finish is unbelievable.. looks like glass... even better than my paint job... so u definitly have to pay to play.. but when its done u will be VERY happy

Since quality work is all about the time devoted to the job, I bet you could get an amazing deal at a top Mexican shop. I once had a door partly repainted in Chile. The cost was $30 and the quality was quite impressive. That being said a perfect job like Sirius talks about takes major dissassembly. E36's are no longer worth $8000 paint jobs unless the insurance is paying.

itll always cost more through the dealer, but the paint is OEM and the job is BMW certified . if i ever repaint my car, itll only be through the dealer.

don't do it, buff it maybe wetsand a few spots, no matter how good, unless you remove all glass and mouldnongs etc, it will not look like oem

I thought about doing the whole key the car thing and then have the insurance pay for it, but then I thought otherwise about it. :nixweiss: Don't know why. The reason I need a paint job is because the front end of my car is pretty dinged up from stones. Also the air damn looks pretty bad where it was chipped and the previous owner just touched it up. I don't know, I see some of your guys cars and the paint looks perfect. I just want my car to be spotless.....ya know??...I love it!! I'm going back to Michigan over Memorial Day weekend and that is where my digital camera is so I'll take some pics and put them on here. I just got a know comp and camera so I may need some assistance from you fellas on how to put the pics on here. I'm kinda new to all of this. Anyway thanks for the imput I'll have pics for some second opinions soon.
