    New car!

hey guys, i've been looking for an e46 m3, unfortunately there jus a bit too pricey, so i've found a metallic blue 99 e36 m3 for around 25k thats in pristine condition (wish i had pics but a friend is at a car auction for me)

    i was wondering...

    a) major differences between the two?

    b) the forum says max hp is 321, but i thought they only had 240? maybe thats jus the euro spec?

    c) whats an m3 evo?

    d) what will a nice sounding exhaust cost me?

thx for the help, i've been researching e46's, so i'm kinda bummed i wasted the time :banghead: i learned alot and love the car tho, and i hear the e36 is almost up to par with the e46 so i'm still excited

m3 evo is a euro version.

25k is much to much, unless it has under 30k miles.. especially at an auction.. you should be paying wholesale. But blue is desireable. do you know what the interior is?

It has to be a US spec and then you are looking at 240 HP... But a very effective 240 hp

They want WAY too much at 25K.

it likely has dove grey leather.. that would be a favorite on this forum, but i'd say retail it should go for about 19 or so with low mileage.. at auction, much less.

do not under any circumstances buy an M that has not been to a dealer for a pre-purchase inspection.

                1. $25K is absolutely insane at DEALER, never mind auction! It will be a very sexy car, try not to make emotional decision Monday.

                2. Can you wait a year? With E90 M3 coming out, E46 prices will fall.

                3. Budget around $500 for an exhaust, totally changes the sound of the car.

Don't take wrong, I love my E36, but don't want you accepting a great car as your second choice if you don't have to.

P.S. BTW Bag "dove" grey seems to be an invented term, BMW never called it that.

i took into consideration that the E90 comming out will make the E46 prices drop, but i need a new car anyways, and was hoping to maybe purchase this E36, then maybe sell it later and by an E46

for those of u long term enthusiast that witnessed the E36 price drop when the E46 came out, how much did it drop? and will the prices for mods of the E46 drop as well?

                  thx

Hey spez, I had some of the same thoughts as you. It came down the fact that I couldn't afford an e46 and just went with the e36. Picked up mine for 20 with under 50k miles on it. I plan on keeping it for a few more years and upgrading to an e46, (or viper  ). I'd say find a nice e36 around 20k. I see you're in No. Va. I bought mine in Arlington (where I live). There are plenty of em around...
