As far as I know red does have clearcoat. Yellow, however does not.

      Thanks,

No, the mugello red in 1995 did not have a clearcoat. Hellrot red as produced in 96+ did have a clearcoat.

It has a clearcoat. Only the 1995 Red (Mugello) and Yellow (Dakar 1) came without clearcoats.

I bought my car not to long ago and it was recently repainted with the OEM color "Mugello", My paint job is superb, I wonder what is the down fall of not having clearcoat even though it is extremly shinny? How would I know that I do not have clearcoat?

anyone with a good knowledge of auto paints can tell by looking. if you get red on the waxing pad when you wax, its single stage. though its unlikely that anyone would repaint it singlestage, its messy. basically the clear urethane is very hard and resistant to impurities and the sun. though singlestage can be very smooth and shiny, it is suseptable to fading from the sin and rain, as well as scratches it also cannot be matched as easily or blended. realy single stage sucks.

I would agree that it would be strange for whoever repainted it to have not cleared it. The best way to tell is by checking your wax pad, as mentioned, to see if it has picked up any red.

                  Just to clear something up...

Two reds were offered in 1995. Mugello and hellrot. Mugello was offered on the very first cars produced in 1994. Later 1995s could be had in hellrot. Mugello is indeed one stage. Hellrot has a clear coat.

Single stage paints have clear mixed into the single color, alot of cars makers still do this to reduce cost. (BMW doesn't do that anymore)

Dual stage paints, which are the most common, have the clear coat added seperately. (Hense the 'clearcoat' term).

Peral coats add a third stage to the paint system; which, IIRC, is added between the color and clear stages.

the only manufacturer i know of that still uses single stage paint is Mitsubishi, on some white cars.. thats it. its actually bad for the enviroments. Not all single stage paints have the clearcoat mixed in. single stage urethane does, single stage acrylic does not. to my knowledge bmw never used the urethane.

After reading all you guy's explanation, I doubt that my car will not have clearcoat, It would have been stupid to pay $2,000 and not get a modern quality paint job. Amassing what can you learn with a little reading. Thanks

well it all depends on what they did for 2k.. might have it, might not, but i'd bet it does.
