Quick wiring question for "angel eyes"

Hey guys, about to tackle my Depo Angel eye headlights this weekend. Seems pretty straightforward, I just have one quick question. The diagram shows the relay connected to both the positive and negative terminals of the battery. I assume I can use the positive terminal located up front on the passenger side, but as for the negative, can I use any grounded screw or is there a certain terminal I am missing. I assume it is something close by as both the wires are in the same loom. Thanks for any help, hope I don't get flamed for a dumb question.

I wired them to the 'plug and play' harness for both ground and positive (daylight running lights/corner lights).

Im not sure what the guy above meant, i didnt wire the power terminal of the relay to the plug and play.

either way, no you are not missing anything. You want to connect the positive terminal to the block that you mentioned in the front. As for the negative terminal you want to ground that, so use some part of the body of the car. If im not mistaken there is another device grounded in that same upper left corner of the engine compartment. I just added this to that same point. Where ever you end up connecting the ground make sure it is secure!

      I hope this helps

I will be working the same project in the next week as I have not yet received the hardware nor any wiring diagrams.

But reading this post makes me question why would you run a wire all the way to the positive terminal and then ground the other line?

phil97m3Blue suggestion makes sense, just tap into the wires already used for your light, one is power and one is ground. I dont see a reason to run additional wires all around the engine bay to get to the main power terminal.

Hey Phil, any tips or pointers before I start working on this project? I ordered the same set of depos +CCFL you previously posted about.

I am not so sure what the voltage is if you splice into the headlight power, however when i wired mine, the instructions suggested to do it the way i stated above. If you want to wire your's differently that's fine. There are multiple ways to do this wiring, im sure.

Plus either way, you are going to have to run wire "all around the engine bay" because you need wires from the relay to go to both sides of the car (because there are angel eyes on both sides, obviously) Thats why placing my relay right next to the power block in the engine compartment was useful. I find the way i did it better for a few reasons: I didnt have to splice into anything, no soldering, a secure ground point was right there, there was a place to mount the relay, and finally the amount of wire required to reach each angel eye was about equal. Also the Euro Ellipsoids take up more room in the engine compartment and adding that relay up front just making the engine compartment that much more congested. Where i placed it there was a hell of a lot of room to work

If you are unsure how a relay works might want to check this out: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/relay1.htm

I didnt have a relay in my kit, so it may be different. Otherwise, it is straightforward...ground to ground, power to power (of the headlights...dont wire it to your battery directly or they will always be on).

Thanks for all the facts and suggestions.. We'll see how everything works when i get my kit.

btw Fitchesbass your M's a 96 right?? Are those Schnitzer wheels?

                Our cars are almost identical

yea ok that makes more sense then.

Basically instead of using a relay with your kit, your angel eyes are on whenever you headlights are on. AKA if your your headlights are on, your angel eyes are on. That works too

that's right. The AC's are reps though. Give me a year or two until i start making some money!

Or you tap your turn signal/corner lights and they will turn on with the first click of the headlight dial, without your headlights being on. This is what I did - it allows you to control your AEs independant of your headlights. Basically they are extra daytime running lights.

Thanks for the help, Fitchesbass, I found the ground terminal nearby and tested it, works great, about to put them in for good now, thanks again!

After that, onto the AFE intake and power programmer from BavAuto, see what kind of diff. it makes on my 99 M

its not a dumb questions and its not straight forward. you need continutity in the circuit.. use the brown wire in the headlight (or it was brown in my car.. with that setup you never know) you can;t go to a screw... or you shouldn;t.

as long as you don;t ask umnitza for help you'll be fine.

yea i have the same setup, except i used a relay with a fuse.
