I desperately need a new interior for a 99 M3 convertible that i am buying from a friend for YES $10. (I hope everyone doesn't kill me for that) The guy I am friends with came into a lot of money and just wants to get rid of it. The engine and body are in good condition but this guy had a slight packrat problem and the interior is gone simply gone. Tears and water damage everywhere from a leak in the top. So i need to know can i buy a full interior from a Coupe and be able to fit it in the Convertible? I am completely new to the BMW scene and I probably wouldn't be able to if it wasn't for my friend. So any and all help are welcome. Thank you.

Convertible seats the same as coupes?

Seats from a coupe fit perfectly and the door panels in the front too. Rear panels are different and the rear seat is too but it is easy to find replacements.
There are a couple of great sites that will sell the front seats and some that have the entire interior from a convertible.
Spend the money and get this interior redone. You can get a good upholstery shop to do this for some real money but than you have a hell of a car.
PM me if you want those locations and for the record you can buy the entire interior new from BMW but it is not cheap...

There's no way I'd give up on the car based up on "advice" from a car forum that is based upon very little information. Post pictures for us. Tell us how many miles are on the car, etc.
Keep in mind that many people on this forum dislike convertibles. Telling you to put the drive train into a lesser E36 is bad advice. The resulting car will not be worth what your restored, genuine M3 will be. Also, swapping out the interior is FAR easier than doing an engine/transmission swap.

An s52 swapped 3xx will be worth more than a US spec vert period.
And if the interior is trashed, what else on the car is trashed? we don't know.

You couldn't possibly be more wrong. :greenchai Show me a swapped S52 E36 (non M3) vs an original E36 M3 convertible with the only variable between the cars being convertible vs coupe/sedan and the original convertible with be worth more. It might be worth more to you and some other hardcore "enthusiasts" but you are only one person.

Really? I suppose you missed my earlier post where I asked the OP to tell us more about the condition of the car.

It might be "worth more" but good luck selling it unless it is extremly low mileage/clean which this one is not. There is no market for the verts, have you checked autotrader lately? There is a low mileage, clean, 99 estoril vert on there that's been on there for 3 freaking years and it's priced pretty fairly too.

If he's asking us about whether the seats will swap, I don't think he knows enough about the cars to judge the mechanical condition of the car. These cars can look to be running fine when they really are not...

interesting scenario. how could anyone in their right mind say no to a running $10 car lol.

do you have funds for continuous maintenance? if not, buy it, swap the interior and sell it

I like the way you're backing away from your steadfast position. At least you almost admit that you were wrong. However, citing one example from autotrader to illustrate your weak point is cute. How do you know why that convertible hasn't sold? Is it a salvage title? Does it look much worse in person than it does in pictures? Is the seller creepy? Are there dead hookers in the trunk? I don't know. You don't know. Fail example is fail.

Facepalm? When you fail to read the thread and notice that I was asking the OP to go further into detail regarding the condition of the car...wow. Now you're telling me the OP might not be competent to judge the condition of the car. Wait, wait, WAIT... didn't you tell the OP to do an ENGINE SWAP but now he's not competent to judge the mechanical condition of the car?
The OP may or may not have the mechanical ability to judge the condition of the car. I don't know either way, but I'm not the one telling him to do an engine swap. You need to take a step back and reassess everything you've said in this thread because most of it is way off base.

You're right. But it's ok. I'm smashed and I hate verts... except for yours...
