Alright guys and gals. Need a little help here on knowledge. Whats the advantage of the M52 over the M50? Does the M52 come as a stock option on certain years? Finally, is it compatable with a 99 e36 m3? Thanks!

M50 vs M52 manifold

M52 manifold is stock on '96-99 cars. The M50 flows better up top. Many state that you'll see a slight decrease in low end torque when swapping in the M50, but the gains up top are "significant".
Wait for others to chime in, because I have ZERO first hand experience with this. My car is a '95, and as such, came stock with the M50 on my 3.0L.

you already have the m52/s52 intake manifold...
better for torque down low, restricts up top though (doesnt make HP up top)
the M50/S50 manifold is the "better" one depending on what you want
better for HP up top (higher RPM's starting around 4500rpm), and you "might" lose a little torque down low around town

Look I appreciate what Eric has done...but he even admits he wanted to make the bimmerworld hose...it is a better design and I will address fitment soon as I am installing 2 BW kits over the holidays!
The best design is the eurosport one but it cost twice as much!
I just addressed fitment in my last post... it's not great. It pushes the oil separator right into the block and the left manifold bracket.

IMO, if a car sees above 4-4500 rpms, the M50 is the way to go.
Has anyone mentioned Eurosport?

That looks pretty :thumbsup2::thumbsup2::thumbsup2: Way better than the DIY I did on my car. I know I'm such a cheapskate:facepalm:

because for a lot of us, it DOESN'T. With other supporting mods, and the M50, I noticed NO lose in torque, and my dyno's support that...
That's a very misleading statement.
It WILL lose a noticeable amount of torque in the 4500 and under range if you install the manifold. Sure you can make up for the loss by adding more mods but it would still have less low end torque than if you had the stock manifold and the same mods.
I think part of the problem is people not distinguishing between peak torque and low-RPM torque. The M50 manifold will yield more torque in certain parts of the rev range but it's not the part of the powerband that you use when driving the car on the street.

i have gone from s52 to m50 back to s52. i am sticking with the s52 until the car becomes track dedicated. the m50 will make the car a faster car if driven properly (+4500rpm) but for daily driving the s52 manifold is more fun (imo of course) and feels faster. you get more of the "kick in the *ss" feeling with the s52. i remember going from m50 to s52 and punching it and thinking "whoa, that's nice". up top the s52 is not as exciting.
you will lose a significant amount of torque below 4500 rpm. here is some data i collected a while back on some before and after dynos of the m50. i was very careful in using only data where the only variable was the intake manifold. the graph is an average of before and after:

i agree that with some additional mods, you can regain that lost torque but the key word here is additional.
i'm not for or against the m50, but it's very rare that you can have your cake and eat it too with any 1 mod.
