    S52 Rod/Piston question

I just got my rods back from the machine shop, and the wrist pins for the pistons slide into the small-end easily, and slide left to right pretty freely. Should there be a small clearance in the small end to wrist pin? Or are the S52 wrist pins a press fit into the rod? The machinist stated that he honed out the old wrist pin bushings to within .0005 of the wrist pins.

    Thoughts?

Anyone? I'd hoped to install the rods today, but am nervous about doing it w/o some sort of verification. I found the TIS instructions for the S54 and here's what it says

"The piston pin must be able to be pressed through the liner by

hand with little force and must not display any significant play.

    If necessary, replace connecting rods"

So it sounds as is hand fitting the wrist pins is correct, but this is for the S54, not the S52....

You want the clearance you currently have.

the bimmerforums FOrced Induction section is full of people who rebuild engines

much more experience can be found there

you should broaden to the M50, M52, S50, S52 since those are all essentialy the same motor
