    Any issues swapping DME's?

I have a 97 and a 98 M3 and want to put the 97 DME (ECU) into the 98 because it has been re-tuned to compensate for bolt on breather mods. I will of course be swapping mods as well. Are there any problems at all, or is this a simple swap?

Please only answer my question if you have done this or are extremely knowledgeable on the topic. Thanks!

not possible on the newer cars, they are coded to the car.

IDK for sure on a 97 though.

i have not done it, but have researched it as well as have asked several dealers and indy shops. i also don't consider myself extremely knowledgeable, but i think i can help... a while back i was looking into swapping in a dme w/ shark tune. ended up buying a new shark injector instead.

you will have to get the dme aligned w/ the ews of the car you are putting it in. shouldn't be more than 1 hour of labor at the dealer or any bmw indy shop w/ the right tools. however, you may not be able to keep the tune when aligning it to the ews b/c i've been told (but have not verified) that the dme needs to be reflashed in the alignment process. no one could answer what exactly the shark was pairing with (dme serial, ews, vin, other???).

      good luck and report back.

I'd email or call them, they should be able to tell you if it's worth the trouble.

I don't think you lose the tune because people sell tunes all time on bimmerforums. Supposedly all you have to do is get it re-aligned but don't quote me on that.
