    Overfilling Diff Oil

Any reason to or not to slightly overfill my LSD if I have the chance? I have the 3.91 out of the car and thus can add slightly more than to the top fill hole. Any reason to do this or not to do this? My thought is it would be slighly more oil, thus more cooling ability. Retarded or no?

No experience with BMW's, but an F-body would blow the excess out the vent.

Good call on that one. The thing is on my bench right now; I need to see how high that vent hole is compared to the fill hole.

          Just fill to correct level.

Story: I "overfilled" the diff a little(what could it hurt?) on an e34 I had(LSD).

Sometime later I noticed the output shaft seal was leaking a little and thought, "well, it does have 150k miles on it". So, I replaced the seal.........

Only to have the new seal continue to leak a little.......

          Light bulb went off.....

I drained the excess fluid(wasn't much extra, maybe 15cc's)

Now with fluid at correct level.....NO MORE LEAKING

Moral: Don't be an idiot like me, run the diff at the specified fluid level.
