Well, I went to leave for work this morning in my M3 after not driving it for 3 days. It was running perfectly when I parked it Friday. I started it up this morning, and it felt like it was running on about 4 cylinders. Obvious, steady (not erratic) misfire. The 'check engine' light came on after a few seconds and stayed on as I test drove the car around the block. The misfire continued and did not clear up or change in rhythm. After driving it around slowly for a while, I turned it off and restarted it. It started instantly and ran perfectly. No misfire at all, as if it had never happened. Drove it to work and it was fine.
Could it have been some kind of ECU glitch where some of the plugs or injectors weren't firing? It's never happened before, and the car ran perfectly on my 25 minute drive to work. The CEL stayed on, but that's to be expected. I'll reset it and pull the codes when I get home.
Anyone had this happen?
