sell it to me! i'm willing to rip the thing apart for experience/knowledge. I can pick it up from you next weekend and haul it away and free up some space in ur garage. If anything I can use the valve cover to powdercoat. Mine is chipping like hell and starting to get some slow leakage.

just be careful about the cylinder head. If the motor has been 4/4, full red, you run the risk of a cracked cylinder head.

I left my # with the OP, and he called me the other day. I went over a ton of stuff that I've learned buying/selling/refreshing s50/s52 motors.

Anybody have any questions, let me know arrot:

I think you guys might be scaring the OP to death. Everything could be fine, and probably is if he shut the car down immediately.

Let him check for any obvious problems. Milky coolant, oil in coolant, coolant in oil, or white smoke from burning coolant. The next step is to check for residual cooling system pressure, and then a leakdown test if he really wants to. But if there are no signs of a leaking headgasket i wouldnt even bother with a leakdown.

There is no point in discussing engine teardown or cracked heads until that point comes. I overheated deep into the red zone and was fine.

OP, so YOU turned the car on and then shut it off? Or did you start the engine and it shut itself off? Wat

As was said before, check for any signs of a bad headgasket. White smoke, excessive blue smoke, milky coolant, coolant in oil, etc. It might be worth running it for a bit and then pulling the plugs to see if any are wet with oil or coolant. You can also look inside of the cylinder. If all of this checks out, the engine could very well be okay. Lets just hope you are one of the lucky ones.

He said he has already swapped the S52 into his car. He wants to know what the S50 is worth.

Oh. Then find a large cliff and throw the engine off of it. S50's are worthless.

S50 blocks are useful for FI applications because of the extra space between the cylinder walls

                  Idiot.

No. They are as useful as S52 blocks for FI applications. They have to be bored to 87mm to be used with any off-the-shelf turbo pistons. What you are thinking of is the M52/M50 blocks. They can be bored to 84.5mm, and a S52 crank is used for its large stroke to increase displacement to something like 2.9L. You get a ton of meat between the cylinders, and alright displacement.

I dont know of anything in the S50 that i would actually want. Maybe the head, but it sounds like his is done. Are the cams the same as an S52?

s50 cams are different from s52 cams, and are great for the M50 motor.

s50 crank is also good for the m50/m52 turbo motor builds

s50 with refreshed valve retrainers is a very reliable motor as well. Great for swapping into 325 or E30s

I dont know anyone who has used an S50 crank for a FI build. There may be some, but the S52 crank is far superior.

I wasnt trying to say that the S50 was totally useless. But with the abundance of S52's and S52 parts out there, the S50 stuff really cant be worth that much.

Feeding a bear is free, its the medical attention afterwards that costs so much...
