radio security code problem

Hey guys,

i just purchased a 1999 e36 m3 (cosmos black) 163k yesterday. One thing that im confused about is that when i turned the car on, the radio asked for a code. How do i get the code? trying to avoid dealerships. thanks

remove radio, call dealership with serial number.
