Installed the Bear Motorsports kit yesterday. HUGE improvement. There is now minimal slop in the shifter and I am a happy clam.

However the clutch is on it's way out. Oh well...

I don't doubt your clutch being on the way out, but pull the CDV out either way if it's still in there. FYI, the CDV will make a healthy clutch slip in certain instances.

      Sound advice.

Also, bad clutch master cylinder can make it feel like your clutch might be going (very low engagement).

And while generally slave cylinders fail more often than masters, on these cars, the master is subject to increased wear as a result of pedal bushing failure.

unfortunately -281 is superseding all the older -688. You can order -688 and still get -281. You have to be very careful and specifically ask for 688.

Why is the steel version better?

Also, does anyone know if the AKG Selector Rod is double shear? I can't tell from the angle of the photo. http://motionmotorsport.net/products/product_info.php?products_id=49

Not a bad idea in general, but I've got bigger fish to fry right now.

The more cars I work on, the more it seems that a delay valve is kind of a standard thing anymore.

            Hmm.

            Well, here are my symptoms...

            1 - Low clutch engagement

2 - Whirring noise when clutch pedal is pressed down (could be TOB?)

3 - Clutch does NOT seem to slip

              TOB and MC? :clueless:

I was recommending removing the CDV under the assumption that your clutch "going out" meant you were experiencing it slipping.

If the TOB is making noise, the PO was probably in the habit of keeping the car in gear at stop lights. Unfortunately, even if the clutch is fine, you'll be dropping the transmission for that anyways.

The low engagement can easily be a fluid issue. Have you flushed and bled the line? If you have fresh fluid in there with a good bleed (remove the slave from the trans, per Bentley's procedure), the MC or SC is most likely to blame. The SC is ~$60 and is an easy item to replace. The MC is more expensive and a lot harder to get at.

Even worse than the wear and tear on the TOB is the wear it's putting on the crank thrust bearing. Bad habit to be in of not taking transmission out of gear and foot off the clutch pedal.
