Aftermarket alarm to factory plug -E36. Need some help.

    Hello,

I was able to setup the keyless function for this alarm system last night through the OEM wiring harness of my 1998 BMW M3 E36. I followed the directions and put power and switch source to PIN 1, and then lock and unlock to PIN 9, 10 respectively and voila. Functioning keyless.

My car never had any alarm installed before, but was wire pre-wired for it. Must give props to this guy on youtube that made it all possible.

How to install an aftermarket keyless entry system (BULLDOG) for your 1997 BMW E36 - YouTube

So having enjoyed keyless for all of 1/2 a day, my tinkering tendencies want to jump in and add parking light acknowledgment for activating keyless.

According to Bulldog's PDF instructions, I have to remove the light control assembly and tap into the 4th wire using their relay included in my keyless security kit (see attached PDF).

My question is that PIN 6 of the OEM wiring harness located in the glove box and the harness I've used so far to setup keyless seems to make the most sense for me to use to setup the parking lights. It's clean, convenient and easy (see attached pic).

But, does bulldog suggest using PIN 6? Nope, they ask me to tap into the 4th wire of a harness located on the light control assembly which is located clear across the dash well apart from where my keyless module currently sits (behind glove box).

To all the security installers both professional, novice and newbie (like me), can I use the OEM wiring harness PIN 6 (located behind glove box) to tap into for parking lights? If not, what do you guys all use to tap into for getting the parking lights to blink when the locks, lock and unlock by remote?

Try grounding pin 8 of X13025, the U.S. Alpine alarm connector (the "Black 12 pin connector"), to flash the hazard lights.

awesome - i will try that. assuming it works, the relay (found above as attached PDF) that bulldog supplies for this function would still be required correct?

No. Your aftermarket alarm has a positive output for the parking lights--some alarms allow you to select the parking light output polarity, but I'm not sure if the alarm you have supports that feature. To work around this, you will need a relay to convert that positive output signal to a negative signal.

Pin 6 from the alarm (+12v output) needs to go to pin 86 on the relay. Pins 87 and 85 of the relay need to be grounded. And pin 30 from the relay connect to pin 8 on the E36 connector.

          Thanks for the above information.

As I am just preparing to install an aftermarket key less entry on my 02/98 M3, here is what I found for a Z3, should probably be the same for the E36 M3, for info copied:

          12 pin plug: to make it plug and play you need 1 "61 13 1 378 138" Plug, and 10 "61 13 1 376 204" pins.

the pin out for the plug is:

          Pin # Function

          1 hot-at-all-times

          2 ignition 12VDC

          3 chassis ground

          4 (-) driver's door trigger

          5 (-) passenger's door

          6 (-) rear door trigger

          7 (+) siren

          8 (+) parking lights

          9 (+) lock (positive pulse)

          10 (+) unlock (positive pulse)

          11 (-) trunk trigger

          12 supervised lighting

My one is a Rattlesnake Keyless Entry System Modell TM 8004.

Still waiting for the BMW 12-pin plug 61131378138 and pins 61131376204

Can't you US guys not get a Z3 mirror with the remote controls in it? Did US Z3's came with these? Otherwise an E31 mirror. Connect the I/O's to the ZKE.

Then simply code the ZKE for flashing the hazards and you have a nice OEM setup.

I bought the rattlesnake unit with 2 remote controls for less than EURO 30 from *bay.

The United Auto Security (UAS) device is basically the same, but it is plug and play, so to make my rattlesnake plug and play I just need to buy the 12-pin plug and the pins which cost approx. $15, total cost for my DIY kit is the approx. $50.

UAS BMWRSX2 price as per website $159.95 plus shipping to overseas which is approx. another $20-30= almost $200 incl. overseas shipping. their offer mentions:

              Plug-in Keyless Entry System Generation IV built for your pre-wired BMW E36 & M3 3-Series (1992-1999).

              Features:

Remote Keyless Entry – Lock and unlock doors and trunk by remote.

Detailed Installation CD Manual with Plug-n-Play Harness – Easy DIY installation.

Heavy Duty Flip Key Remotes – Keys will need to be cut at a locksmith to match your original key. On BMW’s built 1995+ you will also need to transfer the transponder chip to your new keys OR have your EWS programmed to add new keys from United Auto Security. 2 Remote Auxiliary Outputs – You can add other accessories.

Parking Light Flash – Flashes the parking lights to confirm that the car is locked.

Includes:Main module. 2 Flip key remotes with BMW key blanks.Installation CD manual.

              Blue LED.Plug-in wiring harness.Installation kit.

              ----------

Of course for someone who prefers plug and play the UAS unit is better, but for me no problem to DIY, and I like DIY.
