    Choosing an Exhaust Nightmare

I am not a fan of double tip exhaust system (I actually can't stand it). All my searching is turning up: we use to make them or we have to have the car in for the customer exhaust (Achilles)...Louisiana to California for an exhaust...not practicable.

So, have anyone found a single tip exhaust for the E36 M3? Or, has anyone done a custom exhaust with single tip preferable a slant tip...could live with the oval...that has been dynoed successfully and if so would you share the details for duplication? I should add that a former M3 owner recommended the Ebay headers (little over $100 stainless ones) Also, I would use a free flow cat.

HKS Klasse was a single tip muffler made for 6cyl E36's but that was discontinued a long time ago. I think Bimmerworld sells a race exhaust that is single tip, otherwise everything else is custom.

Free flow cats are a waste - stock ones flow plenty well.

Single tip indicates 4cyl (318) on E36's FYI.

A single tip might look ok if it didn't leave such a large opening in the rear apron.

AA Race exhaust is single 3.0. Not sure what headers it will mate to directly. Ask AA.

I wish the HKS Klasse was still available...from some videos I have seen they sound acceptable. So, my best bet is a custom job with one of these:

I grab some pictures of the HKS Klasse so I could attempt duplicating. So, are you saying it would be best to butchered the stock system to keep the CAT?

A tip of at least 4.5 inches is the only way to go for a single tip.

3 inches will not cut it...ideally, a 5.5 inches slant or an oval would be the most aesthetically pleasing.

Summit and Jegs sell tips. Generally, they are long, so your muffler would have to end a little further under the car, but one of these could be fitted to a custom or modified exhaust that already terminated in a single pipe.

You may have to DIY. Could be a great project. I helped a friend make a single 3.5 inch system for one of his turbo E36. We used a single tip of about 3.75 inches on that. He later made a single 4.0 inch system with a tip a little over 4.0 inches for his other turbo E36. We were using a Mig on mild steel, and then had the exhaust ceramic coated.

                              5 1/2? :gtfo:

Wait up...the stock twin measures 5 1/2 inches from end to end...so a single of 5 1/2 inches would be the same presentation.
