    245/40 tires on a e36

    Hello,

I currently have 235/45 continental DW tires on my e36. I want to put 245/40 DW's on. Does anyone know if this size will fit without hitting the inner front strut or the fenders. I'm mainly concerned about the inner front strut. BTW it is a stock e36 strut not the M3 version.

    Thanks for the input

245's can fit without spacers, but since your sig shows you aren't running stock wheels it would largely depend on their offset.

^ agreed. And, assuming stock suspension (ie no camber shims, etc). Slightly lower springs wouldn't be a problem though.

I've got 245/40 Sumitomo HTR ZIII on 8.5" DSIIs, no spacers and have had zero rubbing on the street or AutoX with stock springs. Haven't had it to a HPDE yet, but I doubt it would cause the suspension to do anything it hasn't already at AutoX.

Edit: Just saw your comment about running regular E36 struts up front. What's up with that? Is it an M3 or regular E36?

          with stock E36/m3 offset (-41mm +/- a few mm),

245/40 tires on 17x8/8.5") will fit the front with a 12-15mm spacer.

Or, depending on the tire, with no spacer at all as has already been stated... :hattip:

I think your "tire brand" variable was more dependent on using STOCK springs... a very rare "condition" nowadays.

I'm not sure what your point is. I only mentioned the tire variable because I know that a very small number of tires (most notably Star Specs) are known to run wide, but for the vast majority of cases, a 245/40 will fit without a spacer on a stock suspension. And since the OP didn't specify that he's running an aftermarket suspension, I think it's reasonable to base suggestions for spacers on a stock setup.

Although I still want to know why he's got regular E36 struts on the car.

I tried running 245/40/17's all around with H&R sport springs with bilsteins, and I had tire rub on the bottom of the strut with falken azenis tires. I believe they run a bit wide. I'm wonder if they will rub on my coilovers in the near future?

                            just for another data point:

Currently running 255/40/17 Nitto NT05 on square dsIIs.

Swapped top mounts (96+) and 95 offset control arm bushings.

I needed a 5mm spacer to clear the stock m3 strut housings since the tire was rubbing the strut tower.
