Master window switch dead. Replacement doesn't work either. Need recoding?

    Hoping for some assistance.

    2011.5 E90 M3

My master window switch stopped working altogether. Other windows can be put down with their respective switches, just driver window and all other switches on master control do not work.

I took door panel apart to inspect, but didn't see any issues with wiring. Car is only 48k and in fantastic condition, in Socal for all 11 years, so no rust or corrosion or anything anywhere.

So I bought a "good/tested" switch unit off ebay, but it doesn't work either

So I'm wondering, is there perhaps an error code in some module that needs to be cleared before the switch can work again?

Is there a module known to control this operation that should be inspected?

Is this a known issue? Searching, I see it mentioned a little, but it turned out to be corrosion in the wiring in one thread that had resolution.

    Thanks

Hi There - Corrosion in socal? Ha! - If i remember correctly i think its controlled by the FRM module, have you tried scanning the car with ISTA/D? Opposed to the e46, the e9x platform works well with ISTA, it could tell me if an individual switch is bad within the main window switch. I don’t think the windows switch needs to be coded as opposed to the FRM module which needs the VO#, VIN, its been a while since I messed with coding so I might be missing something. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I haven't done anything yet except check things physically. I have the more advance Schwaben/foxwell tool that can go into individual modules, so thank you for narrowing it down for me. I have a computer and cable, but it's all set up for E46 - I'll have to figure out what changes (if any) are needed and I'll have to check if I have ISTA executable already on my hard drive or installed.

May i suggest buying another laptop, keep the e46 one strictly e46 - I learned the hardway and now have an e46 laptop and everything else laptop that goes up to the G1 series, also if you do not have ISTA, i suggest purchasing ISTA+ (plus) from ebay which is a more comprehensive solution. Also, if the module is faulty you can get your module cloned onto a none faulty module, The minicoopers share the same CAS, FRM module and also the regular 3 series shares the same, which is much cheaper than mentioning its specific to the M3 - Caution here, you need to make sure its the same hardware revision to match that of your LCI module.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Got lucky! It ended up being a popped fuse, #66. I wasn't even aware a window switch would have a fuse lol. Replaced the 7.5amp fuse, and we're all good.

Me too, but I still need to investigate why.
