Exactly, not a chance that air box passes Visual. They have a check list too of things they have to looked at. They also have a book with photos of CARB exempt/approved parts like Dinan. So even if you put some fake CARB Exempt sticker with number on it they can look it up. You do Not want to have your car flagged to a Referee Inspector.

Wow thats ridiculous. They should at least test it with a sensor in the tailpipe if they are not sure, but auto-failing people is just plain stupid...

They fear the box will fail visual inspection. I don't know what the big deal is myself then again I don't have all my parts on the car yet.

Smog has gotten easier in CA because they no longer measure emissions at the tailpipe on a dyno for post 2000 MY cars. Now they just the give engine a quick visual and then connect via obd port to check monitors and make sure no SES light, that's it. It's a 5-7 minute inspection vs 15-20 mins on a dyno before. I think they are assuming they will automatically fail because of the enormous airbox and aperture with BMW M Power all over it haha.

Yeah it’s probably a close second after the original GruppeM intake in the MAF’ed category.

    ^ Yep all this.
Especially one being an easy swap back to stock for test while the other a lot more work.

The eBay ones are good ole chinesium derived plastic the was poorly 3D printed on a chinese 3D printer. The reviews are pretty bad.

I gotcha, but personally I'd rather not give my money to counterfeiters and rather support the original maker of the part.
