I’ll chime in then. The E36 and E46 don’t drive the same. There’s certainly aspects that feel similar between the two, but I wouldn’t give up one for the other.

I'm doing an E70 X5 Diesel... more torque than the X5M, 10x more reliable and 2x the avg MPG. Highly recommend test driving a deleted and tuned X5D. 👍

No, I agree in general, its a hassle, but to own something and not use it for the fear of loosing it - where is the logic in that? I drive one of my Ms every day. I have no other transportation - all of my cars are daily drivers.

4Runner - yes, I'm not outdoorsy type anymore. I have bad back due to an accident, I hate Texas heat, and I've done plenty of hiking, camping, kayaking, skiing, biking, cliff diving, etc when I was younger and when I lived where the weather is milder. Even then I never owned anything larger than a Corolla. If I had to get an SUV, I'd get an E70 X5M.

I’m not a huge fan of the e9X, but it’s the last real M car for sure. Instant throttle response, high revs, sufficient chassis and steering feel, rwd, NA, manual trans exists. It does feel a bit like a lazier (but faster) e46 M3, but it’s still speaking the right language.

This is exactly how I felt driving the e92. E36, e46, and e92 were all literally built to serve the same exact purpose for enthusiasts looking for similar driving experience. F8X was the one that changed that

I was thinking about this the other day as I was looking for parking at a crowded coffeehouse in pasadena. I wish I had a shitbox prius, smart, i3, etc for parallel parking situations since dipshits don't know how to maneuver or park their cars and not have to worry about love taps or door dings or the valet for that matter. My commute is boring so it would be good for that I think though there are days I'd take the M3 because there are some lowkey twisties I can easily detour with.

I think if they ever brought the honda e here I'd cop one.

Yea i guess thats what im trying to get at- its doable but certainly not effortless. Im not a fan of keeping things parked and not using them either but well over half my drives are either too short, or packed with traffic to get any enjoyment out of my M3. It still gets out a couple times a week but im glad that i can spare it from the more mundane trips. Not the kind of miles id like to run up against our maintenance schedules

That’s why I track my car. It would make me sad if I crashed it, but there’s no way to use it to its full potential on the street, so what’s the point in owning it if I don’t?

Not every accident is a total loss- and even in that event theres still a lot of work that id have to put into whatever replacement i got (rod bearings, vanos, euro headers and cats, subframe). Hard to imagine coming out ahead all things considered- not to mention the current market for our cars. Not quite as simple and easy as you make it out to be.

Maybe for your use case the 4runner is a boring car but hell you try taking an an M car to big bend national park or carrying some road bikes or kayaks in it.

Beats driving a boring car every day. Agreed value insurance, and you just get another one. Easy.

Uninsured motorist is not texas only problem. car insurance in detroit was through the roof and plenty drove without insurance. Plenty of people in los angeles don't have car insurance either.

Come to san francisco where you'll get your windows smashed every other month while you're parked around town, or better yet, find human feces on your hood.

You overgeneralizing. The fact that they are all similar car types, does not mean hey are similar cars. If they were, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
Toyota Celica GT-Four, Toyota Supra Mk. IV, and Toyota 86 - all 3 Japanese sports coupes from about the same eras made by the same company.
Nissan 280Z - Nissan 300ZX - Nissan 350Z. Mazda Miata NA-NB-NC. Nissan Skyline GT-R32-R33-R34. I can go on.
