Track Toolkit?

There is an an undercurrent of respect for quality tools on here. I love it.

Also, it is pretty damn impressive what some of y’all are accomplishing at the track. Respect.

I’m going to throw out the most hate-able comment with respect to tools, but if you are just making a dedicated, track only tool kit where the tools never leave the bag, you could build a budget set with some Harbor Freight options….but not anything that comes remotely near a safety/load bearing option. I accept the hate from this suggestion.

I think that is the general consensus.

I don’t have many HF tools in my home toolbox. Maybe a odd tool I used once or twice. HF flap and grinder discs are actually pretty good and HF floor jacks (NOT HF jack stands).

I still have my set of snap on 3/8 drive sockets and ratchet that I bought in 1996.

My track tool box is mostly HF, some Amazon and gear wrench ratcheting wrenches. I have about $200 into it.

Use your track kit to work on your car at home, and if you need a tool that isn't already in your kit while doing a job you'd do at the track, add it to the kit.

My track tool box is the backup when I can’t find the tool in my toolbox.

For me, it’s one less thing to do. I load the tool box, helmet and other stuff box, ramps, cool suit cooler, fuel cans and jack. I almost have loading and unloading under 1 hour including strapping the car down.

I’d like to build a rack on the front of the trailer to hold tires, fuel cans, ramp and jack. Someday…

Metal snips, zip ties, self tapping screws, gorilla tape.

Great for cutting off damaged body work, under trays, etc. For when you have an off and want to piece your car back together or you paddock neighbor has an off and you want to help.

Only thing I would add is what I use most often which is 7mm hex bit for brass caliper guide pins.

I have Stoptech calipers.

Pretty good starting list above. I got a set of Milwaukee packout boxes to organize my tools, one of the best things I've done. They stay in the trailer unless I'm driving to an event, in which case they're easy to grab and toss in the trunk.

I also have what is now a mature checklist I use before going to any event. I'll share with anyone that wants it for a starting point, just PM me an email address and if you prefer Excel or pdf.

Packout is excellent, as are the drawers.

Most of the time I just do brakes and wheels. But on occasion done things like o2 sensors, tps, coils, minor suspension stuff, etc.

I’m not swapping clutches at the track or anything. There is a limit of what i’ll do to save a weekend. If its
Ended up picking up the Dewalt socket set from costco. Seems decent but I don’t need all the SAE crap.

I have a tool roll for wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers etc. But the socket rails I have are too long to pack out.

Startup Idea: Car make/model dependent toolkits. Only buy what you need!

SAE crap is the bane of getting a good, compact tool set. It’s really amazing that nobody seems to offer a set without it.

lol...so true! But we're in 'Murica...find a buddy who does home stuff. He'll use all of the SAE stuff.
