Options to mitigate fender liner rubbing with aggressive wheel/tire setup?

It turns out that what was rubbing more and tripping the traction control was actually where the front bumper and two fender liner pieces (front section and the larger section that covers the majority of the wheel well) meet. The part where they overlap was sticking out so I trimmed that back. It still rubs slightly in the back section, but that area is malleable so I’m not worried about it contacting slightly there. mrgizmo04 If I notice that it’s causing any wear on the tire I will do what mrgizmo suggested and remove the section where it may rub.

Yeah, you just end up getting a dremel or a cutting wheel and cutting out a section of the liner that rubs. You want to make sure the hole you cut is large enough so you have good clearance in case a tire gets jammed in there on hard compression / turn (like maybe an off excursion somewhere) so you dont rip out the liner and damage the fender.
Better to run a liner (even with holes in it) vs taking it completely off. You dont want to get all the grime up in the engine compartment or on the frame. Some pads, depending in what you run, are corrosive, better to keep off the body. Same if you drive the car in rain, etc.

I trimmed back the fender liner in a few spots and it's no longer rubbing, except if the suspension is extremely articulated when going in and out of driveways. I'm satisfied with that. I may add some caster as well. It seems like the A052s run wide in this size.
I put a 10mm spacer in the back and now it's sitting pretty. I'll take the spacers out for track days most likely. A little rubbing in and out of driveways is well worth it considering how good this looks now.

on a serious note, you can try using a heat gun and mallet. Or you can custom cut the section of the liner where it rubs. Or, you can raise the car slightly. I’d personally run less aggressive wheels.Last edited by Toby22; 01-30-2022, 08:08 AM.

The Japanese guys don’t speak great english but I can try asking. They’ve been helpful with telling me tire and wheel sizes. I’m not rubbing at all on the fender itself so I don’t think I need to pull or modify that anymore than I already have.
I pressed on the fender liner without removing it and it doesn’t seem like there is any metal behind where it is rubbing. What are the downsides of not running a fender liner? Just more dirt/debris in the engine bay?

You have increase the turning radius of the outside edge of the wheel so it’s going to touch no mate what geo settings you go with.
the width and offset are very very aggressive. Yes people run aggressive setups on track. But most track cars don’t ride the liners and also you don’t use much lock on track
I run 265/35 on a 18x10 et25. And never had it’s be a huge issue. Clearances itself. But yours is a lot more aggressive so you might struggle
