I better keep it brand new and sell to someone who would use it for track. oh boy simple question went into this lol. Maybe just do a yellow tag or green tag which ever I could find.

The three times I went inspecting what the hell was going on. But the steering was like an F30 not in sport mode. Just no weight at all. It's pretty intense if you do anything remotely quick under 40 mph. Any aggressive driving in 2nd will require DSC stage 1 to be off
I’ve actually been thinking to manufacture and produce something closer to 2.7 turns, might not be bad to rip it open and engineer this a bit.

I was fine with the original steering rack, it was leaking the only reason I am changing. I can go yellow or purple tag but they are hard to find. Car is on jack and now I am in dilemma lol.

that is no fun, maybe strictly a track car use then. 🙁🤔

If it's off you can of course re-do it. Just more work, and kind of a pain, since you won't know for sure until you drive it.
If the steering is center and rack is centered. then slide the plastic so it aligns the rack mark without moving the spline. What needs to be done to make sure it is aligned?

I have the steering centered with INPA and locked.
Removed the old rack and ready to install the new LUCAS Black edition rack (LINK)
Rack is centered with 75mm on both sides.

Now the question is I need to install the plastic alignment on the spline. Will one or two tooth make a huge deal? I will align it center of the tab on the new rack (pic from other forum member).
It's slightly noticeable if you're off by a tooth or two, but only at the extremes. If you're off, you'd reset with INPA anyways.

If you want to get the cap aligned and centered properly, you'd need to follow these steps (source: I've rebuilt 100+ racks now and have centered each cap):

    1. Turn the pinion rod clockwise to have the tooth side of the rod go into the steering housing completely. You know you'd done this correctly when you feel a slight “click” and it stops.

    2. Take the cap and align the single tooth on the cap to the REAR circle on the pinion tube on the rack, not the front. (The front is the side with the tag facing you, the rear is the side with the rack lock)

    3. With the cap pressed onto the pinion rod, turn the pinion rod and the align the single tooth on the cap to the FRONT marking on the pinion tube.

You'll center the rack every time using this method.

(Ignore the crust on this rack, it's a spare in inventory that I haven't cleaned and rebuilt yet.)
