    Check the last 4 digits of the engine number and see if it lines up with the early S54 engine number sequencing.

    Mines a Feb 2002 with a November 01 build date and the engine number is the 2700 range

    I know that some dealerships will give you the maintenance records with proof of ownership. In my case, I knew where the car had been serviced since it was new, so they just gave me a print out of what had been done.

    You are looking for SIB #11-04-04, LBL code 422 when it comes to the rod bearing replacement in the maintenance records. I hope that helps.

    That is how I learned about mine, it was all “verbal” and I did not receive a printout, but they did confirm by letting me see it on screen. I wish I could recall exact mileage, but it was prior to 30k miles and had a complete engine failure on the highway 😬

    Ask really nicely, and suggest that they could redact any personal information with a black marker or something. When my car went in for airbag recall I asked my SA, he said no because privacy, and I just told him how much it would help me to know what's been done to the car so I know what kind of maintenance I should plan to bring it in to them for in the future, and suggested that if he prints it out and blacks out the name/address of the previous owner then there is no privacy violation to speak of. He did it, and I was very grateful. YMMV, of course. I learned that my rod bearings were in fact replaced twice under the two separate rod bearing service actions in the first 19k miles of the car's life.

    Yes, mine had an engine replacement through BMW due to failed bearing

    Possibly your car had complete rod bearing failure and engine replaced under warranty by BMW?

    Just pulled Rod Bearing number 6

    Anyone seen this before The black marks ?

















    Showing wear, 440 part number on a M11 2001 engine, so recall was carried out at some point. Nothing in the books noting they were done
    Crank looks fine, no marks











    Don't want to pull any others yet, till i can work out what those black marks are

    Thanks, just tested it. I programmed a limit of 75nm and it reaches that limit on ~75degrees

    gonna need to do this with the old fashioned gauge and breaker bar.

    I have found all the info I need, except for one thing.

    For the M10 bolts, sequence is 5nm - 30nm - 105 degrees (3x)
    However, for this I am using a digital torque wrench with a gyro so it can measure the 105 degrees.
    This wrench can take a max of 80nm. I have written a programm so it will start measureing 105 degrees from 30NM.
    I'll undershoot the 30Nm torquestep by a small margin.

    Does anyone know if this (80nm max) is enough to reach the 105 degrees?
