I have a tick in my brain that makes me want to change up my stable, and the rational part of my brain thinks it's a bad idea, but the emotional side of the brain says YOLO.
Current stable is the e46m3 which isn't going anywhere, but is a point A to point A car for the most part.
A 2015 X5 with N55 that sits outside, and my wife commutes in downtown that we've had since new. It's had a hard life, but has made it 135k miles so far. If I wanted to get much more than another ~15k miles out of it it'll need another few grand of preventative maintenance. I started the claims process for hail damage, and it wouldn't surprise me if the car gets totaled.
A 2025 X5 with B58 that is exclusively used for road trips. Eventually it'll be the wife's daily, but I'm trying to squeeze as much life out of the F15 while fully depreciated as I can.
Finally a 2016 F30 with B58, track package, and springs/wheels/stage 1 tune in estoril blue II. It only has 57k miles and is my daily that hauls the kids around town. Stupid fast for a daily, pretty efficient, and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country tomorrow. However, I'm 6'3'', my kids are starting to get big, and space is getting tight.
If I change anything the F15 will get sold/totaled, and my F30 would probably be sold also. Candidates to replace these two would be a G20 M340, G30 M550, G05 M50/60, E53 4.8 X5, E34 of various flavors, or E39 of various flavors. I'm all over the place and there are different attributes of each of those that I like. Perhaps the most rational of them all is the M340. All the performance, reliability, and efficiency in a slightly bigger package, but also the most sterile. The least rational but coolest choice is the E39 M5, though two early 2000's M cars could be a nightmare (I'd probably keep the F15 as a winter car/beater also, and eventually give it to my almost 13yo son in a couple years).
I guess I don't really have a question, just typing out the thoughts of an irrational BMW enthusiast. Feel free to tell me if any of these are the worst idea you've ever heard.

Same here. Between GT2, Need for Speed and F&F, I've also been a Skyline fan for quite some time.Originally posted by elrichmeister View Post
R33 is my favorite GTR, always has been since I first saw as a kid on the original Gran Turismo on PlayStation.
If you can manage to find a no stories, rust-free example, take the leap.

Wow, small world! The green car was my daily for 5 years (and is still my usual go-to unless circumstances dictate otherwise).Originally posted by Sharocks View PostDo you drive the 911 often? I think I've seen you on the 101 lol
I'm also on the 101 often. If you saw a dog in the rear window, that's me.

Hah, it is an unlikely group. The common line through, however, is that they are all uniquely excellent drivers. If anyone is considering something non-///M . . .Originally posted by 9kracing View PostThat is quite the lineup
Very all over the place haha
997.2 GT3: Better than they say. Best of the "attainable GT3s," if you can consider the current market attainable. I've driven everything above this level and the value proposition doesn't hold up beyond this point.
R33GTR: First car to lap the Ring in under 8 second and you can feel it even around town. It has more grip than the e46. And sure, you can build them to 1m HP, but it's really a car for cornering, not the dragstrip.
Longhood: 2250 lbs; 210hp. No safety systems except the belts. Unassisted brakes and steering. Webers. Nuff said. Oh and you can feel the motor in the seat when it comes on cam from 4k through redline.Last edited by LSB4Me; 12-29-2025, 07:10 PM.

Wow that's beautiful. Love the outlaw-esque wheels.Originally posted by LSB4Me View PostCan do! Here’s a couple to show how it started vs how it’s going. It’s everything a racecar should be.
Hell of a lineup right there in that garage!

Big body for the wife, Brooklyn Grey Mettalic w/ Tartufo. Was going to pull the trigger on the M60 just for that sweet 4.4L TT, but the boss stopped me from going overboard since she's driving it mostly but the I6 is strong.
