I don't believe there ever was - I researched a lot on the old forum back when I did mine. It was simply recommended by Beisan, but they didn't present any actual evidence to back it up other than saying “the S54 springs weaken over time”. Which look, they may well do, but going forward I'll probably just make them a maintenance item rather than using the S62 ones.

Did anyone use the VAC Motorsports Vanos Hub upgrade?

I have one here on hand, I had the same concern but on mine it’s 100% a redrilled new disk, there is 0 wear on the original holes.

I would think that they mix and match as they redrill the disks in batches.

As mentioned drilling the disc is the best option.

Yep, those Torx bolts are made of the same material as the Allen key bolts. I believe the E36 M3 bolts are made of a harder material. Just buy some 12.9 bolts from anywhere.

OP could invest in a gauge and adapter to measure the vanos pump pressure before he does the rebuild. It would be an interesting to see oil pressure before and after the vanos rebuild work.

Is the upper chain guide mentioned supposed to be superior to the OEM part?

Makes sense, was not aware of that.
I liked the idea of the aftermarket discs as regardless of cores we have discs for our cars, just needed a few kinks worked out.

I'm jaded though as my "aftermarket" Besian disc unfortunately did not have the ability to deliver sufficient oil pressure to vanos resulting it terrible response times when tested.

Maybe they have since fixed this issue, I had to go in there twice as a result, but Raj (RIP) was quite nice/helpful, even refunded all my money for other items I bought from him that were 100% fine, basically got a free vanos "bulletproofing" in the end.

Agree with others, OP is spending way too much here, but if money isn't an issue and all these parts make him feel better, OK.
