Great photos. It looks like it has better more direct air flow. I guess we will have to wait and see if there is a functional difference.

I am not by any means a rep or expert of either product. But from what I have seen in pictures. The Karbonius OEM style CF box is a very similar shape/design to stock plastic airbox. It takes the stock accordian elbow.
While the Eventuri “Hybrid” box has an extended longer CF plenum that replaces the stock elbow and MAS adapter plate.

Karbonius OEM Style CF Airbox. Fits just like stock no modifications needed. +12 db sound over stock box.

I've seen hot smoggers, and legit smog shops, never in between. But I believe you, just not my experience.
The fines have gone up so much and they have undercover BAR agents checking up on shops frequently throughout the year. To pass an obvious aftermarket CF intake change is classified as test station Fraud. $5,000-$250,000 mandatory now. On Fraud violation shop almost always loses license & so does the tech. Since these smaller Test Stations are often owner operated that’s their livelihood gone and ended. They’re not risking this anymore for a $50 smog certificate. Fines just for trying to obtain a fraudulent smog certificate is now $150-$1000 to the consumer. My friend’s shop once had a customer of their’s say they got busted by the State Referee for trying to use a Dinan CARB Exempt sticker on an aftermarket intake. Test Stations have a book of what CARB EXEMPT order # matches to picture of product. I’ve seen this firsthand.

So if that’s the case having to remove & replace every two years minimum for Registration (also CA does have a few smog checks on road ways). Is still close to work/labor needed on a true CSL intake conversion. Then not sure if has been posted, how much HP/Trq and useable power band is lacking from true CSL intake system/tune.

How much torque is missing from a CSL/Alpha N+MAP tune with CSL airbox vs a MAF tune? As some of us know, the CSL airbox especially with cams can be hard to dial in the low end torque, drivability and overall smoothness. It's been discussed a few times on the forums so I won't rehash, but one of the few CSL airboxes I've driventhat felt as strong and torquey down as the MAF tunes js Bry5on 's car with CSL airbox and his tune, and that thing has torque going up a steep hill in 3rd gear at 1500 RPM.

The tedious and expensive method to figure this out would be to take a car, slap this thing on it, tune it and dyno it. Then slap the CSL airbox on and all the other bits, have the same tuner tune it and dyno it. Then we will have our answer on how these two setups differ.

I have a really strong feeling the overall powerband won't differ hugely but low end torque and drivability will be different.

Hopefully this turns out to be a better solution than the existing karb to eventuri setup.

It's like 80-90% less hassle than a CSL airbox AND works with stock tune AND you don't have to hope you get the right tune or search for a good tune so it drives smoothly. This is hugely more convenient and accessible, I see it as a big win for the E46 M3 community.

Sure this is kinda the point I made about the mental hurdle/hassle of learning how to acquire the resources to do this.

With that said, I don't see how plugging a cord into the obd port and uploading a couple software files is 80-90% of the effort, but I get it for those who want a simple solution. I mean, fwiw stock isn't all that bad either...

I'll wait a year from now for when they show up for sale -- "selling because I decided to go the full CSL route". My normal eventuri is good enough, until I get envy from hearing one in person.

I feel like I'm having a stroke reading comments, how are people missing that? All that is like an extra 1-2k for me too.

Unfortunately it would be nearly the same effort(as a csl box) in places like CA.
