The SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) was released in 2001 and was pretty high-tech in its day. However, they were not very reliable and can be extremely costly to fix, especially if the hydraulic pump has failed. BMW produced SMG is rather high numbers, making them relatively easy to find on the used market. Most owners
EAS is highly reputable and has worked on my others cars for years. A friend of mine owns an E46 M3 and after having SMG troubles, shipped the car to EAS for a manual swap. No issues, straight forward, solid work.
I’ve had the car back from EAS for a while now, and I’m really impressed with how quickly they completed the swap. They finished the entire job in about a week, including installing my CSL headers. The quality of the work was excellent, and I would highly recommend them.
The following month, I took the car back to have the subframe done, and that process was just as smooth and professional.
Great to hear all the positive feedback. Will post my results once I get the car in and back. Makes me feel better knowing that there are many customers with positive feedback.
It’s like taking your child to see a new doctor for the first time…I wanted to make sure I am taking him to the right place.
They did rod bearings and VANOS on my car. I had all the parts and wanted to DIY the jobs, but my friend who was going to help me with the brunt of the labor got sick suddenly. EAS was willing to do the jobs with the parts I provided, did it quick, and the rate was super reasonable.
I recently had a full suspension refresh done there and can attest to their exemplary work quality. They are upfront and transparent about pricing and very punctual in terms of turnaround times.
