Those two things have always been the thing that makes dynavin a no go for me.

Talk to Jeff first. He and I spent a lot of time on the phone before this purchase for me to understand what changed since my last one. In addition to "features" (bells, whistles and gizmos -- which I could give 2 shitzzz about), there is a lot more performance. He was instrumental in design decisions, moving this from "a cell compatible dash device that plays music" to "a car stereo that also works with your phone." I'm paraphrasing, but that's what moved me... the guts of the unit to work with Hertz amps and BavSound speakers. It's also what I grilled him on. I don't need a dash mounted iPad. I need a car stereo, being a bit of an old school audiophile (think metal biased cassette tapes in the 80s and 90s). The old one had poor sound quality IMO, as well as glitches. The N6 was a step up, and the N7 is two steps further. So yes, the specs reflect that. But then again, I can tell the difference in mp3 compressed audio format vs basically anything else, to your DSP concern.

But I don't work for them, don't take my word for it. Call him. Both installs were plug and play by the way. Very simple, complete kits.

PS... I'll make my prediction now that Dynavin, not Avon, will be the preferred upgrade for BMW cars, sort of like Alpine wins out over Kenwood or Sony for other collector cars. The AVIn I spec’d out was over a hundred dollars cheaper as I don’t need the igo, and all that extras stuff. However, the 4v preamp outs is nice on the N7 PRO vs the 2V on avant4. The DSP is 15 band on AVIn vs 10 on the dynavin I think.

I guess I might as well go for the N7 Pro.

I’ve never used an Avin, but my Dynavin N7 was a big upgrade from my 10 year old Dynavin, and the new one has EQ, car play, etc. out of the box. Similarly, my new MacBook is a big upgrade from my 10 year old MacBook Pro, my new iPad is a big upgrade from my old iPad, etc. etc. You see where I’m going here — 10 years is 2 or 3 lifetimes in electronics. My new Alpine head unit is a big upgrade from the 10 year old one it replaced (which stopped working).

I’ll certainly vouch for Dynavin USA support. If you’re on the fence between these two, the best thing I can say is pick up the phone and talk to Jeff Bechtel at DynavinUSA. (https://www.jandtdistributing.com/). At worst, it’ll take away any questions around service. I’m just happy to see them both selling tons of units, so they can feed the upgrade budget.

I still say the weak spot in these cars is the speakers, so BavSound or something else is almost mandatory.

Yeah. I already have BavSound upgrade snd it is a difference in audio quality. I’m looking for a head unit with DSP abs sub pre-outs to add a sub.

With all these issues, does the Avin at least work flawlessly when using wireless Carplay? Meaning, does it boot to Carplay and start spotify/waze where it left off on the phone?

Worst part about driving my E46 is the shitty Avin Avant 4 I installed in it. 0/10 would not recommend. Buggy, poor audio quality, horrendous “support”…etc.

just look elsewhere.

Yes, it’s my only option to add subs under rear deck with a sub pre-out to a small 2channel amp.

Hoping it works. Re-purposing HK sub enclosure with CDT audio 6x9 on Soundstream St2.500d amp.

This is strange now radio is working fine but Carplay is not? Keeps asking me to connect phone but it is. Yesterday Carplay was working fine even when not connected.
