The HJS are of good quality, but yes, slip them into the OE bracket.
Good feedback!

Unless you all have a different part # that would be helpful for someone else

Thanks. I started with unresonated SS sect 2, then I tried adding an x-pipe, then I tried the small resonators, and now I have the SS resonator.Originally posted by jet_dogg View PostNice writeup and impressive skill man.
When you say sec 2 gave a more raw sound, this is with the setup pictured in post 1 with mini resonators and hjs?
I'll add my data once everything is on.
Obviously, less sound absorbing makes for more a dramatic note. I was trying to retain the nice [raw] sounds in the upper RPMs but not have these pockets of buzziness in the lower RPMs. They start and stop at certain RPMs and certain throttle inputs, which I found be more unpleasant than worth for the higher RPM note. I wanted to see if it were possible to dial these out (hence the incremental approach) but I couldn't.
Tbonem3 is right when he recently said that section 2 is where the rasp builds - that's what I found, too. So adding the SS resonator took care of all that but it noticeably quiets everything else, including upper RPMs, down. That's on relative basis, mind - I'm not saying you will end up with a quiet system by doing a resonated SS section 2.
I do have a quiet system, though, due to the SCZA muffler. That section 3 with an SS resonated section 2 is good exhaust setup for emphasizing an airbox.
I never did recordings of the initial setups. That would have been a good idea for this thread! The v-bands are great for this sort of screwing around, and other maintenance.
Lastly, my new OE muffler hangers (HJS brand) have pretty much failed within a year - don't buy! I'm not going to hope for a little more life out of OEM ($50 ea), so I just placed an order for Rogue's

I had this same setup a few months ago or so and didn't love it due to the sect 2 and as you say, install was a bit tricky/tight. Very interesting to see you add resonators to sect 2 after the fact and the whole vband thing.
Will you be dynoing soon? Will be good to see another s54 with cams/airbox/2.5"

More fussing about. Those small bottle style resonators weren't tempering a small hit of rasp around 2-3k RPM. Lots of rasp talk lately on some of the threads but on my setup, it was odd to have that one spot. So $600 later for a new SS section 2 with resonator 🙄 I chopped it out and spliced into the existing system. Nothing like taking the long route.
At the beginning of this project, I wondered if non resonated section 2 would give a more raw sound. It did, slightly, on the rips up to redline but I didn't care for the buzziness. Adding the small bottle style resonators helped, but had the issue noted above. Resonated section 2 turned out to be the way to go for me.

Thanks for kind words, all. Here's a link for the tips. Really nice pieces, plus the price has come down recently. They are meant to be re-riveted onto the factory section 3 but they happen to be 2.5" OD and then flare to 2.75" (70mm): https://burkhart-engineering.com/en/...6-m3-inkl-csl/

Those tips look like how they should have come from the factory, really nice.

Great work man, all that work will save you time down the road when the exhaust needs to be removed to get to this or that.
