Rattle from under valve cover

    Which cover? the plastic beauty cover or the valve cover?

    Could it just be loose cover nuts?

    I was chasing similar noise. Turned out it was the heatshield rattling on the headers.

    Use a long screwdriver with a hard handle (like craftsman) and put your ear up to the handle. It will act like a mechanic's stethoscope and you should be able to better localize where the noise is coming from before opening it up.

    Yeah open it back up and make sure everything is in place. I'd check to make sure all of the retainer clips are in place. Also check your VANOS pump tabs.

    Time to redo your valve cover gasket. I wouldn't just ask, I would explore with a flashlight and touch everything.

    Rattle from under valve cover

    Just did valve cover gasket, now noticing this odd sound emanating from directly underneath the valve cover, between where oil cap and vanos unit is. Comes on around just over 1100rpm and under 1400rpm
