    For those who are running akebono pads without dampers, do you have the squealing or clunking? I am getting ready to do the mod and have everything expect the dampers. Debating if I should buy them now or do a trial first.

    Thanks Thoglan. I was buying parts for the project in batches and reading various posts about it. Live and learn. I ended up ordering the rallyroad brackets so I'll see if there are takers for the CM brackets - looks like it works great unless you want to use the larger EURO737 pads

    Hassan cut down the metal at the bottom of the inside pad so it wouldn't contact the CM bracket. I run the original, shorter pad, on the inside, and the taller pad on the outside. I swapped the fronts for RR, they're definitely better. haven't bothered with the rears yet.

    azmirm5 Pretty sure this was mentioned in the 996 brake conversion thread by Tbonem3

    If it were me I'd have a go machining them, but it does seem the rallyroad is worth the extra cost. They're lighter, better hardware, and obviously fit the proper pad.

    Almost done with my rear 996 install but EURO 737 pads not seating properly on inboard side. The EURO737 pads extend out the additional 5mm to avoid the rust ring that forms over time on the 328mm rotors. The culprit? The Creation Motorsport BR0020​ brackets! It looks like the Creation Motorsport brackets don't have a "groove" like the Rallyoad brackets - see pic below - so the "taller" EURO737 pads can't clear. I don't know why Turner (and ECS) continue carrying and selling this junk. Turner is always my go to but this is disappointing.

    I guess I can Dremel the groove in but it that advisable? Or bring it to a machine shop to machine the groove in? Or just take the $170 loss on the CM brackets (been sitting on install for more than the 3 month return period) and get the Rallyroad brackets for peace of mind? I know, these are brakes we are talking here so the answer should be obvious to me.

    What would you do?

    I am using rally road brackets

    So the first step was of course to remove the wheel, calliper, and rotor, nothing out of this world here; I also was very lucky and my rotor screws came out pretty easily

    Below you can see the share I followed for the upper part of the dust shield. at this point, I had cut just enough to bolt the upper section.

    Next, the lower part, I did this to avoid cutting too much and follow the pattern of the mounted calliper, as you can see it was not much what needed to be cut just to seat the bracket, but you do need to cut off some more for the calliper to clear.

    After cutting the shield I was able to mount the calliper

    So far so good, but then I also checked how centred was the calliper in relationship to the rotor, and I found that is 3.2mm too car inboard. the bracket kit comes with 4 washers but they are just 0.8mm thick, so for the calliper to be centered I would need to use the 4 washers on one calliper, so I need to get some stainless washers from home depot.

    See how the supporting pin of the outboard pad is contacting the rotor

    Here you can see how much clearance is on the inboard side (that gap is 3.2 - 3.3mm), I measured it with feeler gauges. in this very picture, you can see where the bracket seats to the knuckle, there it is where the washers need to be placed, ideally 1.6mm thick to put it in the middle.

    I will post a photo of the other side so you see the final product of the cut, I did use my Dremel smooth out the cuts and since I don't drive on the rain or winter I am skipping paining it for now as I would hate if I spray other bits in the process, plus you don't see it at all. bellow
    Digging up this old thread since I'm putting these brakes on my car pretty soon. I think the reason your calipers were not centered is because they appear to be the wrong caliper. They look like the 986 part number calipers not the 996 ones. Are you able to confirm the part number cast into the caliper?

    Just go thru the full install and i had to get the CM ecs front brackets machined. It's a bad product. Stick with rally road for the brackets both front and back. I bought a kit from someone so I ended up getting the Creation motorsport brackets in the front and they don't even come with shims. Anyways I'm happy it's all done and working now !

    I did not use the Porsche shims. Those pads have a metal backing plate so I left the shims off and added some brake grease where the piston hits the backing plate.

    I use the following and they have no dust and no noise:

    Front Pads:

    Those rear pads give full sweep but the inside pad requires some trimming if you used the ECS brackets.

    Does anyone have the part number for the ceramic pads (ie quietest) front pads? Sounds like swapping pads would do the trick. Most e46 m3 race cars I have heard are quieter than my current set up!! Thanks for all the suggestions!!

    Those Textar pads look like they have the rubber shims on the back, plus they've got the weights up top.
