Gents,
I am a bit confuse now. BMW Motorsport Team Schnitzer E46M3 GTR should
have P54 when raced in ALMS back in 2001.
(Let's filter and not go in details what was done to the "P" series engine that is
not the point of this post).
I don't understand why BMW Motorsport Team Schnitzer used the Euro S50-B32 ?
the double Vanos has been retained in that engine.
The PTG Yokohama car I believe used as well in the first year S50-B32 but later
they moved to P54 stroked to 3.4 P54 with Vanos delete.
My logic tells me that Team Schnitzer Works had 2 cars 1) with S50-B32
1) with P60. The S50-B32 engine was used either for a) cost b) not important to race
for podium just testing the car agains the same prep P60 car to compare the data from
exact 2 chassis with different engines.
Indeed the '01 P60 was the car that raced for podium and it won in it's class against
the sophisticated VW.
PTG had the S62 engine etc. But from Engineering stand point I am interest only to know
why Team-Schnitzer used S50-B32.
Very interesting to hear some real info.
Regards,
Anri
