Check Engine Light - 2000 Z3M

Hi all - I know this is a complete shot in the dark, but just looking for some quick tips/guidance before I spend $200 on a diagnostic. I bought my car 4 days ago and driven it about 100 miles since I bought it. Yesterday, the Check Engine light came on and wanted to see if anyone has any guidance on finicky things on this car that I should look at before I take it to get the diagnostic. Things like checking the gas cap or other simple fixes.

If you have an OBD 2 scan tool. 1st step is to scan for trouble codes and go from there. If you are going to take it to a shop, make sure and do you research, I would recommend a EURO shop. These cars a special breed. I work in the Industry and their are lots of differences between Domestic, Euro, and Asian vehicles. Post up the trouble codes, and I will see if i can help.. GL
