When this car came up with 55k on the clock I just had to take a look...2 owners, great history, low miles new it was the one. The chap did 70 miles a day in it on the motorway so need to get the stone chips sorted on the bonnet and one of door mirrors has a few but other than that it certainly doesn't look or feel 10 years old....I LOVE IT...:smt055
The vanos stuff was sorted under warranty at 36k and thanks for the offer of the plate but already have one to put on.
Roll on my first track day....
NICE  sounds like a good-en  U be careful out there on track. The M5 is a bit heavier then the M3 CSL :hahaha: but U wouldn't have guest it from the driving seat

Ssssweeeeet  Congrats  I remember having a chat with you about the merits of the E39 over the E60 ... http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3584
... now you bought yours, I want one
One thing to keep an eye on the pre face lift early E39 M5s like yours (1999-2000 up to W reg) is the Vanos issues caused by defective O-ring seals letting the oil drain out of the high pressure chamber after the engine's stopped but it's a simple matter of replacing the before mentioned O-rings and sometimes adding an electric pre-charge pump to build up pressure prior to cold start up. There was also an inherit weakness in some of the early m5 engine blocks not bedding their piston rings properly, causing higher then normal oil consumption. Since yours is very low mileage example it may have escaped these problems or had them addresses already, either way I thought I'd mention it to you so you're in the know. Stunning car and the "BEST" colour  IMHO
If you're interested I have a personalised number plate you might like for it

Originally posted by AndykAfter the thread below I have taken the plunge...E39, 10 years old, 55k on the clock, 400bhp, big smiles......doesn't show it's age and is still really tight.
And this will suprise Glendog but already looking for AP's.....it has BC coilovers and supersprint exhaust for starters and I see a trip to Simpsons in the future for a healthy 550bhp maybe...Anyway a few pics after picked her up today..

pre face lift models, like mine, could continue to drink 1/2 litre every 500 MILESOriginally posted by BOUNCE View PostYeah great cars the E39 M5,just keep one eye on the oil,as they do tend to burn a drop or two.
i worked out in my 97k miles mine cost me £2000 in OIL but never had a problem as long as you keep filling
had mine for 4 years and it was superb. RS6 after it was boring by comparison.

Can't comment on E60's but have heard rave reviews of the E39, the 4.0 V8 is meant to be a corker! :supz:

It really did impress me on the drive from Salisbury to South Wales today....lots a bendy roads but the car just was not fazed but what every I asked of it....didn't feel that much slower than my CSL on the straightsOriginally posted by Dan View PostFunnily enough a few people I know have said the same thing, it doesn't show it's weight and is quite agil for a big heavy car!
My wife has an E60 525 Touring and I must say that the E39 is a much better place to be sat in.
