Spare parts for a track day?

Just getting started tracking my E46 M3 this year, and have been trying to make a list of stuff to bring to a track day or weekend. I remember a thread on the old forum about this, and I'd like to get a good list going here.

I've only done a couple events so far, and have been packing light (basic tools, oil, coolant). But I'm definitely hooked and want to start planning for more track days in the future.

So what spare parts do you bring with you to a track day?

I trailer my car. If it’s at the track that’s 40 min from my house, none.

If it’s at a far away track…the further away the more parts I’ll bring. Also need to factor in tools.

    Min list
    Plugs & coils
    Brake pads
    Metric hardware
    Wheel studs & lug nuts
    Fuse
    Hose clamps
    Brake duct hose
    Belt

Might bring sensors (throttle, cam, o2), water pump, alternator, PS delete (block off & shorter belt), pulleys, VANOS oil line.

Want to start packing a gas pedal, radiator, oil cooler, spare oil cooler lines.

Eh…not sure I agree with the MAF. I’ve never had an issue with it?

Fair enough…I’ll add it. I think any sensor is fair game to be on this list. Wheel speed sensor(s) might be another one.

What about the DSC pressure sensors? It’s crippling on the E9X M3 but not sure on the E46. Might just throw some lights.

lol I agree. If I had the capital I would bring every sensor.

I start out with a used part as a spare. Then I swap in a new part, then keep the part I just removed. Sell the used part.

My list always changes. The only things that remain constant are plugs and coils. If I just replaced it then I'll be less inclined to bring a spare.

Also need to factor in tools. Its frustrating to have the spare part and then can't install it. I've seen others in this situation. Luckily I'm around and I have hex and torx bits.

I always keep in the spare tire area:
                  CPS
                  TPS
                  Coil

In my track bins I leave a bottle of oil, a bottle of brake fluid, and my next sets of track pads/rotors.

Start with tps/coils (those are most frequent fails) and fluids, and as you do preventative maintenance, keep the used parts as potential replacements to get you home. All sensors, hoses, etc.

                    Youtube DIYs and more

All jobs done as diy - clutch, rod bearings, rear subframe rebush, vanos, headers, cooling, suspension, etc.

PM for help in NorCal. Have a lot of specialty tools - vanos, pilot bearing puller, bushing press kit, valve adjustment, fcab, wheel bearing, engine support bar, etc.

Good list so far! Definitely some things I didn't think/know about.

For those that take spare coils, do you bring a single spare or a full set?

Just lights. I ignored a bad one all of last season.

DSC doesn't work obviously but I'm sure you don't care about that.

                              Front Wheel bearing
                              Stud/lugs
                              Brake pads & fluid
                              Oil
                              A coil n plug
                              Fuses/relays
                              Lots of zipties

Pretty much anything else and it's back on the trailer to fix it at home. Trailer has a winch for a reason.
