    Oil diverter valve and inline oil thermostat

    Hello,

    My OE oil cooler is getting a bit long in the tooth and I am struggling a bit with track day oil temps in the summer. Atlanta. Its hot.

    I am shopping for a new cooler - hopefully something that will use the OE mounts and shroud - as well as considering installing an oil diverter valve and inline thermostat. I am hoping to get some feedback on how effective the diverter/inline thermostat will be at reducing oil temps.

    I installed the oil diverter from BW this year. I have an OEM oil cooler that is <2 years old and basically free of debris.

    I haven’t been particularly detailed about proving this, but at first pass - when outside temps and engine oil temps are measured by the DME I don’t see any advantage to having the diverter in with the OEM cooler.

    Late in sessions, I’m still getting oil temps in the 250s when it’s 90+ outside.

      Thanks Ranger. Not sure if that is encouraging or discouraging. Maybe best to just replace the cooler and see how it goes?

        I am waiting for some detailed pictures on the DO88 oil cooler as it looks to me to be only slighter bigger than OEM. If that is the case it might dissipate heat better than the bigger thicker oil coolers out there.

        Once i get confirmation and it looks good i'll get one and test it here in Bahrain while temps are 125f with high humidity LOL.

              You're not going to reduce the stable operating temps - it will just take longer to get there and then you can run a little longer before temps start getting out of control.

              To lower the operating temp you need more thermal capacity - more radiator surface area, more airflow, or both.
