Yes I realize this camera is quite old but believe it or not, it’s still one of the best cameras for recording track days. Over the years I’ve tried dozens of different hardware combos, often frustrated by no video, missing OBD data, etc. At one point, I literally sold a GoPro Hero 8 and went back to my Hero 4 because of complications related to device pairing.
When it comes to lap timer apps, newer doesn't mean better. Reason being later models rely on Bluetooth for wireless connectivity, which can cause conflicts and bandwidth issues with other accessories. The alternative is to record manually but overlaying videos then becomes quite tedious. For seamless video overlay, older models are preferred as described here.
My asking price is $150 shipped to 48 states (PayPal as gift else add 3%) and you’ll receive everything in the list below.

Why the Hero 4 is still good today
- Has back LCD screen for easy screen previewing (i.e. easy to navigate menu)
- Wireless connectivity handled through WiFi so your phone is free to maintain Bluetooth connection with connection with other external devices (e.g. OBD, GPS, etc.)
- Capable of recording 1080p at 60fps with 3 different FOV
Features found on newer models
- Faster WiFi speeds (5ghz vs 2.4ghz) but using Wifi for video transfer is never ideal, which is why I am including a micro SD card reader that can plug directly into your phone
- Higher resolution (4k vs 1080p) but keep in mind YouTube downscales videos to 1080p so uploading 4k offers marginally better quality while taking up way more space
- Built-in GPS but most apps don't utilize this feature other than for video overlay, and unless you mount this outside, even that feature isn't usable
What’s included
- GoPro 4 Silver Edition
- 1 hard shell case
- External battery charger
- 3 batteries (2 OEM + 1 aftermarket)
- OEM usb 3.5mm microphone adapter
- OEM roll bar mount
- Mount & bracket
- MicroSd to USB-C adapter
- USB charging cable
