But day to day, under normal driving, with low RPM included, there is no muffler for this car that sounds "good." Certainly not good enough to warrant a significant expense, even if your definition of good is "loud/aggressive." The best solution for this car is a quiet muffler and a CSL airbox.

Any S54 modification, CSL airbox included, still falls well short of the same ballpark, league, or even sport of a properly set up S62.

Lest it sound like I'm shit-talking the S54, I should point out that I own five of them. It's an incredible motor. It's just not meant for sound.
Cool, I've owned two E39 M5's, one bone stock and one with Supersprint headers and exhaust so I've got tens of thousands of miles on both S62's and S54's for my anecdotal comparisons. Maybe my particular setup isn't really run a lot but the Dixis makes my car sound amazing at every RPM. I have Euro headers, resonated stock section 1, Supersprint Section 2 resonated and the Dixis. It's grumbly and deep at low RPMs, becomes harmonic around 4-5k RPM and then full screams 6k+. You can really hear the car breathing and responding with this exhaust, it sounds so much more interesting than most V8's for example.

And no, my definition of good isn't "loud/aggressive", to really rephrase what I meant is that now the car sounds like an exotic car when driven with spirit. I had a chance to compare it driving side by side with a 360 Modena and the S54 did not disappoint. The Dixis is worth every penny for sound and daily drivability and it doesn't hurt that it cuts 41+ lbs off the car. My E46 M3 is now as enjoyable and exotic sounding as my E60 M5 with Eisenmann Race, and I absolutely could not say that before when I had a Supersprint Street on.

I don't disagree that airbox + tame exhaust isn't a great combination, but anyone that's owned the Dixis with a proper setup knows exactly what I'm talking about regarding how it transforms the S54 into a beautiful symphony. To even put it close to the same league as an S62/S85 with an exhaust shows how incredible the Dixis is and why it commands such a high price.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Now I'm second guessing myself whether to go thru with parting out my M3. 😅

Easier to find extra $1000 then dixis exhaust, just saying. Flame suit on.
full disclosure: I own one too and love it

At the risk of threadjack, because there are quite a few Dixis owners in this thread. Which section II did you use with the Dixis section III? I bought my Dixis last week and it doesn't slip into my existing Milltek section II.

Oh and good luck with sale, yours in in excellent condition and this thing is laughably light.
