You must not have been following F1 very closely ... good for Rosberg's seat in 2014.
As a self professed F1 nut, I am all for the move, but at the same time a little sad about Schumacher. About bloody time Hamilton got out of McLaren and Whitemarsh's politics. Time will tell if the move is a good one or not - but I suspect from here on now, at least Hamilton has a wider range of team choices post Merc - be it Redbull or Ferrari.
He is without a doubt the fastest guy out there in a single qualifying lap (be it average or good car) - even Alonso acknowledges this. But consistency and overall package as a driver on and off a track, Hamilton still has a bit of way to go.
Lot of backlash however from 'fans' of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 over this move.
One thing I also don't get is McLaren picking Perez as replacement - seems like a desperate move over an unknown - they might have been better off trying to secure the services of Kimi

I had seen the rummors early on around Feb/March
and then not paid much attention as F1 Politcs is trite.
So Hamiltons want be able to swap shirts then.
While I think the move is good for Hamilton
in regard of the forthcoming rule changes,
Perez makes commercial sense for Mclaren.
The other key point that is always
overlooked is that its Button who has constantly
'set' the car, be it practice or Race.
Hamilton is very quick, a pure Racer
like KImi etc, no doubt about it, but
he does not have the abilities like
Senna, where Senna could go out do a lap
or two and then pit and tell the team what to
adjust where, and the alterations to make,
even down to tyre pressures etc.
Jo Ramirez who was the head ''Honcho' at
Mclaren during the Senna / Prost era
stated many times that Senna was setting
Telementry, that Prost was reading.
Schumi returning to F1 was not his best move.

The Gorilla.

McLaren had ebough of Lewis I guess. I think the extra contract money was their excuse to say "no thanks". I'm pretty sure the last straw was telemetry posted on Twatter. Whitmarsh froze him out after that but the writting was on the wall well before.
I also think Perez is a great signing. Button and his maturity with a young hotshot. Great combo in my eyes and he is quick. And he comes with big money backing. Actually not just big but the biggest!

Lewis posted them to make a point to his team that the car was slow which Martin Whitmarsh got really pissed off about.
Interesting comments. I've been following this quite closely and it was amusing for Autosport to call it wrong in last weeks mag.
Sky's F1 channel had Martin Brundell on via Skype who also agreed that it probably was Hamiltons best move despite 19 (management company) not having a fucking clue what they are doing and why talks have taken months.
Reading between the lines though, the strategy seems to be for Merc to sacrifice next year in order to challenge for the title in 2014 with the new engines they will be producing and to to whom Mclaren will be a customer for.
Also Hamilton was pretty much asked to effectively take a pay cut by not getting
the increase requested. Ironically this was the same amount that Merc has ended up offering him but with more commercial freedom that comes with their team anyway. Braun said on camera they had made no extra allowances in the offer to him.
Of course none of this changes the fact that Hamilton has far too many distractions off track and constantly travelling to Hollywood to be with his pussydoll. Also the relations with his Daddy don't really help.
Furthermore, more commercial freedom will only mean more photo shots, film voice overs etc.. especially as the US wants a slice of F1. On that note am sure Bernie has been whispering in various ears during this whole episode. Afterall, Lewis was the key to significantly changing the driver line-up which then makes the sport more interesting. In fact am sure Bernie will be greasing the track for the mid-west USA viewers.
Anyway, next six races are going to be interesting.
Kindest,
J.

Hamilton posted it to show his car was slow but Buttons wasn't and it was Hamiltons choice to go with the wrong wing. Either way, you don't shit on your own doorstep. Button was nowhere earlier this season but behaved perfectly.
It gave Whitmarsh the excuse he needed to turn down more money and freeze him out. I still say it was McLaren who effectively told him to f*ck off, good move for Hamilton or not.

Hamilton can't complain his car is slow if button stuck it on pole ?Originally posted by M5 Powered View PostLewis posted them to make a point to his team that the car was slow which Martin Whitmarsh got really pissed off about.

And if Hamilton was not on pole because of his setup then that was down to his setup.
Button is like a fine wine. So much more respect for him than his pre-Brawn days
