    Hard cup life

Just looking for some advice on two things.

Firstly I have a set of cups which are now just not legal for the road but was wondering how many more track miles I could get out of them?

Secondly looking for a set of 18'' track wheels and would like to know what the best options are with regards price and lightness, I know Rays are great but seriously expensive, Team Dynamics also seem popular but same weight as Standard, what are other options?

Thanks in advance for any input

I thought you already had a set of Rays that came with your car?

I have a set of 19'' Rays, but one very damaged :bigcry: For cost of a new one can get a full set of Team Dynamics! Also thinking that for trackdays 18'' is the way forward.

            Those BBS are:smt055

How much for a second hand set?

I wanted to buy your Rays from Wopps when he sold the car to you but he didn't want to split.

The BBS cost me over £2k but they were in very good condition - the hubs are machined for the E46 offset match.

Love the Re30's but over £800 a wheel now! So if anybody knows of someone selling one used one please shout!

Good Wopps, has to keep it all together, has all the right toys.

Am I right in thinking with 18'' best results on track are running rears all-round? Sorry but another question, what sizes, offsets should I be looking for?

There's mixed views about running 18 or 19s for track work and indeed all rears (square set-up). Certainly you will get more life from tyres as you can rotate your wheels from front to back when they wear.

My 18s follow the BMW staggered set-up and hence the rears are wider than the front. I think in general you want to aim to keep the offsets very close to the OEM offset figures - whether by having custom made hubs or by using wheel spacers to have the desired effect.

                    My wheels/tyres are:

                    Front 18x9.5J ET+41 (265/35/18 tyre)
                    Rear 18x10.5J ET+28 (285/30/18 tyre)

(FYI, standard OEM 19" offsets are Front ET+44, Rear ET+27 iirc)

There's a few threads on here about 18" wheels. Here's some:

What is your opinion about 9.5J in the front ? Does this has a negative effect on the steering rack by any chance ? Cheers

I know a few of you run 18 x 9J for track wheels... Has anyone had experience of 18 x 9.5J all round? Any potential clearance issues using 265/35/ZR18 Cups? (I run -2.5 degrees camber at front)

Righto, I do know how to use the search button but there seems to be plenty of argument on offsets. I did own (for a short while, lets not go there just yet) a stock M3 and I put a set of 9Jx18's (265 tyres) on it. Got them from TMS and rumour has it that they are an ET30. At the front they stuck out further than I was

                      Glen

Thanks for all the info, I'll get reading. Main reason for going to 18 though is much more choice of rubber.

Will now have to go and understand what offsets actually are, so much for just buying a set of wheels and slapping them on!

                        Front 18x9.5J ET+41 (265/35/18 tyre)
                        Rear 18x10.5J ET+28 (285/30/18 tyre)

Rob have you fitted these wheels to your car yet ?

The reason for asking is the only 9.5J I could get to fit on the front was et40 with a 12mm spacers ie = to 28et.

Because of the rolling distance of your tyre set up is different ie the rears tyre will rotate faster than the fronts. you will find on certain bits of road particularly going down hill the DSC will come in and reduce the engine revs as the on-board computer think the rear wheels are spinning up. So you will have to run with the DSC off.

My front 9,5Jx18inch are et35 with 3mm spacer so et32 and the 265/35/18 fit fine, no rubbing at all on the bodywork or arches, and miss the Intrax by a whisker:thumbs:

Used them road and track and no DSC issues at all, not even once

Shimmy, I was referring to the 285/30 rubber on the rear and 265/35 on the front

This is a very good option -> http://www.forgedalloysusa.com/BMW/bmw.html

Friend runs these in his Porsche.
They can produce them with the offset that you need.
They are very strong and lightweight.

                              He runs
                              19 x 8.5 = 7.6kg
                              19 x 10 = 8.4kg

Makes BBS racing wheels seem heavy.
Not sure about the weight of E88s tbh but if you compare it with BBS LMs, the LMs feel like anchors for a boat.
