Mine did this but was about the size if a 50p piece in the centre of mirror.

Replaced under warranty about 18m ago.

                    I think they're about £350 to buy.

I returned to my car today, got in and noticed a strange smell from inside. Didn’t think too much of it as it wasn’t that strong.... was about to put the car in gear and noticed a liquid substance on the gear stick and surrounding area, a few drops worth. Looked up at the rear view mirror and there was a horizontal

Don't get the BMW ones .. it'll just leak again.

Yep that's what mine looked like when it leaked over the centre trim. That had to be replaced too.

Get it off / bagged up / bag on the trim.

Although seeing the way the liquid burnt the trim (bubbling the paint) i'd get it out of the car altogether.

Mark, get that mirror out of there pronto. Manufacturing fault in them all by Donnelly Mirrors

Also, be careful of BMW changing it, as I believe they swap them for standard E46 rectangular mirrors now with the original oval ones NLA

Mine hadn't leaked or changed in appearance, it was purely preventative work over last winter when car was off the road, but didn't take long, about 10days in all IIRC between sending and receiving back

had same issue with mine. Sent it to the US and they return a refurbed one to me. So far so good. They use to be free, but there is some handling charge for them. Not sure how they process them in the UK. I sent mine to Sybesmas Electronics in the US. 616-392-6911

Here is a thread about the replacement.

I emailed Sybesma's Electronics about my rearview mirror issue (the tint is only covering about 65% of the mirror surface) and here is their response. I thought anyone else having the same issue would find this helpful: Thank you for the order. Unfortunately, we do not have the plastics in...

This is what I found from my old thread:

You'll need email [email protected] to get a Claim Form, and you'll need some digital photos of the failed mirror. Cost is about $75US+shipping

P.S. I paid $175US according to my email archive.
