Thanks for the DIY link on Euro parking light feature addition, it is very helpful in case I want to to it but now I'm thinking how many times I will be using it here in US, if in Europe it would be a must. It does not seam too complicated.

So many differences for example in lighs only between Euro and US versions...DRL is another good feature US versions are lacking and not sure how complicated this would be to do it.

Fog lamps are the same design Euro-US and I did not know even there is a slight difference-that is when high beams are on they still remain on in Europe but not in US cars.

In few days I will be mounting the Bosch H1 Euro headlights (with 10 nipples on each side of top front glass and aim motors on the back), when my H1 Osram Night Braker order and headlight aim adjusting wiring harness arrives.

Here is a DIY that uses the Canadian DRL module. That's probably the easiest approach, especially if your high beam relay is under the dash. You need only add and wire two relay contacts and swap in the DRL module.

Unfortunately, some of the images seem to have wandered off. At the end of the article, you'll find a link to some modifications I researched: for a car with front fog lights that might see thick fog.

        John F,

do DRLs turn off when headlight switch is in position 1 (when city lights are on)?

No, the DRLs don't go off until position 2 if you wire them as BMW did for Canada (the scheme Messr. Stygar followed).

This can be a problem if you have front fog lights. In thick fog, it really would be really nice to have the DRLs go off in position 1 so that their backscatter doesn't blind you. Hence, the wiring variant I suggested.

Great writeup John, it is much better when DRLs go off when switch in position 1 (and 2), it would not be nice to have both DRLs and city lights at the same time on so just by switching to pos. 1 DRLs turn off and city lights turn on.

Euro DRL is a must in this case, is the Euro and Canadian the same? Will either one work?

Just got the Osram H1 Night Breakers and Osram W5W Cool Blue (for city lights) tested them on uninstalled Bosch Euro headlights (facelift version), they look cool so far but can't wait to mount them soon.

I am also doing the wiring adapter (US to Euro headlights) by using the bases of 9006 & 9005 bulbs, I already have the Euro parts that plug to the rear of Bosch headlights.

I have a pair of E46 aiming motors. I'm not sure if they're mountable in E36 headlights without modification. But I pulled them out of a 2004 330.

I am working on installing the BMW retrofit kit discussed earlier in this thread. The wiring harness is exactly as the instructions show, however the descriptions and pictures can be somewhat cryptic. Can anyone tell me what the "fan connector" is and how I'm supposed to access it? I can't seem to find what the instructions are describing. Any pictures someone may have would be really helpful.

Also, are there any tips for removing upper portion of the fusebox in the engine compartment? That torx screw by the firewall has been impossible to get out.

If i remember correctly the FAN connector is a ground block. its all over the car just looks for a black plastic piece with bunch of Brown wires going to it.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I figured it was probably a ground connection of some sort based on the fact that all of the leads were all going to be terminated on a common conductor. If this assumption is correct, couldn't I just terminate the leads on any bare metal or bolt on the chassis? That would be considerably easier than trying to wrangle all those wires about just to get to the "fan connector". I've seen these called comb connectors elsewhere, but I'm not sure if they're all the same type.

By the way, if anyone is interested in a mint (like new) set of Bosch Euro H1 Elipsoids with electric motors for E36.

I have them ready and available.
