CEL Light this morning? Any ideas?

So this morning when I was at a stoplight on the way to the office the check engine light came on. The car seemed to run fine. Any ideas it has never come on before?

No idea without getting it read. Could be any number of things. I'd go and see what code the car threw; sorry, man.

Where do I get the code read?

I've heard of people getting codes read at Autozone or the like.

I prefer my personal Peake reader. Lots of people here have them. I've used mine several times and relative to taking the car to a shop and paying them for a read and to fix the car, the Peake reader has saved me plenty of $.

Check out Autozone they do it for free.

Thread Jack, Does anyone know if BMW has OBD software like the Audi's do? I remember i could easily hook up my laptop and play around with the audi and such. Anything like this for BMW?

Yes, there is such software available for our BMWs. It's called autoenginuity and they provide PC based software, PALM pilot software, etc. Bimmerzone has it. Check this out:

No idea to tell without reading it, but I would bet it's an O2 sensor.

Carsoft gives you the same thing, and in many cases is cheaper.

AutoEnginuity you have to buy the BMW module and the main module.

Just get an ODBII scanner for $50 if you think you want to save yourself reading codes in the future.

Otherwise ANY shop will have a tool to read your code.

                  -M

Yeah, carsoft is good too. If reading codes is all you want or need, any obdII scanner should work.

make sure they replace the check valve as well.. otherwise your new pump will get trashed in short order.

honestly, that job takes less than an hour.. learn to DIY my friend.

this is not a car you take to the dealer.. unless you like getting ass-raped.

I know but I don't have the time nor the tools to work on the car myself. It makes more sence for me to just pay someone to do it for me.

lol... it makes the MOST sense to find an independant mechanic who values your car.. not just your money.

did they replace the check valve?

if you don;t want to DIY, or have countless thousands of $$$ to burn, then the E36 M3 is not the car for you.
