    Well that makes sense.

What I'm saying is that if the stopping when going up is intermittent, like someday's it will work fine and others it will ***** very hard, it's a mechanical issue, most likely the regulator or the motor.

Right I'm just helping to clarify that because it sounds like the symptoms are similar but different.

If the problem is mechanical this won't fix it.

The regulators are known to go out on these things quite often.

Does your one touch work all the way up sometimes but other times seems to anti trap for no reason?

True but most of the guys on this board post this same problem over and over and some guy (who does not know what he is talking about) always chimes in that it's the window regulator....which it is not. You start with the simple (and FREE) fixes first THEN work you way up to buying and installing an expensive window regulator. If it were the window regulator there would be a distinct crunching sound and the window would eventually stop rolling up and down all together.

Mine is fixes, as per this post. This one post needs to be a sticky....

I havent seen my problem before. If im driving and i have my window down. Ill press all the way up on the button for it to automatically roll all the way up, and it will roll half way up, stop, then roll back down. EVERYTIME!

If im stopped, it rolls up fine. If im at a slow speed it rolls up fine. Seems anything over 25 it does it.

You all realize that the window switches are two position switches? Just like the sunroof switch. A light push makes it work, and a more solid push past the detent goes to auto.

It's possible that the switch is worn out.

It's also possible that the motor is at fault (Usually the problem when the window goes up part way in auto, and then stops)

It could be dry seals causing friction.

                    Could be wiring.

Or it could be the regulator, but usually you have other issues with the window

Or, for the majority of these problems (per your original post), they need to do the auto window reset:

Do a search and see just how many guys have this same problem and someone suggests a new window regulator....

Just an addition to this....if the re-learn does not work you can check for mechanical resistance in the regulator travel my hooking up a multimeter in series and monitoring the amperage while the window is going up. The re-learn didnt work for me.

In my case....the plastic sliders were broken in the tracks. The were cocking upwards and jamming in the rail when the window would go up. Replaced them, lubricated the tracks with grease and fixed 10 dollars later. Just FYI for anyone looking into this with similar auto stop problems. If you're too lazy to do all the work, just cut the "rpm sig" wire coming from the motor. This is what shuts off the motor when it sees pulses from the hall monitor in the motor drop below a certain amount.

There is also a plastic bushing in the motor assembly that wears out. It's a .50c part, but it's quite a bit of labor to remove the motor. I believe it involves removing the glass to get to it.

I'm gonna tackle this one of these days when I have some time. My sliders are fine, but it's still reversing. Got nothing to lose pulling the motor.

First try to reset the anti pinch function. Have an owners manual? Read it.

in a nutshell, turn key to on.

                            fully lower the windows

push and hold the up button, continue to hold for 5 secs after the window is up.

You need to do this anytime you disconnect the battery.

If that doesn't fix it, then it is most probably the motor itself. There is a Hall effect sensor in the motor and it gets disloged, it fails.

If the window itself it cockeyed, then it is the mechanical scissors might have failed.

Look at www.understeer.com, and think about buying a Bentley Manual.
                            this just blew my mind...

Also there's a fix after 96 iirc? so 95s are prone to break some deal while the 96+ are prone to just get dirty in the tracks and cause too much resistance. That's what I remember reading in one of these threads. Some year difference goes along with all this other stuff.

On my 1999 M3 I had to replace the plastic runners where the motor rods connect to the window. I had to lower the window to the full open position to do this. When I tried to reconnect the rods to the window the motor hardly moves stays in the full open position. All other windows still work fine. There was no problem with the windows prior this.

Just did this on mine and its all fixed

Sometimes fixing little things that annoy me are more gratifying than buying big parts.
