    Cruise control stop working

My cruise control stopped working today. I have never had this problem in any of my BMW's before, but its my everyday workhorse so I'm not surprised. What do u think went bad?? Module?? Where is it located?? Thanks for your help guys!

its attached to the driver side shock tower... .wire runs to the bottom of the throttle body. The plastic tab that holds the wire on the throttle body is known to break... check all the connections

Thanks Calvin! Isn't the part to the shock tower the actuator?

Were you messing with the clutch pedal at all? I brought my car to a mechanic a year or 2 ago for the clutch pedal cylinder and ever since then cc hasn't worked. I think there is a switch or linkage back there not 100% sure.

          No, not at all.

I'm going to take Calvins advice and check it out tomorrow.

the same thing happened to mine... well i found a quick fix and im not sure if it'll work for you. While driving, I quickly flip the key from on to acc and back to on. All this is done as fast as you blink. Remember you have to have to car on and engine running.. let me know if that fixes it.

I did that and it worked for one day.

This is exactly what just happened to me. Driving home one night, the clutch pedal went to the floor and didn't come back up. It was the maser cylinder.

Unfortunately, I had the car at two different shops since the first shop had no idea how to replace the master cylinder so I don't know who to ask to fix it.

Check your clutch pedal switch. It's white and located behind your clutch pedal. If it's no longer working or stuck in the engaged position, your cruise control will not work. Part number is 61-31-8-360-421-M85 if you look at PelicanParts.com

Did you ever get your CC working?

Mine occasionally drops out while I'm driving. I can do the 'shut off, restart' and it works again for awhile.

It could be the brake light switch, or the vehicle speed, or rpm signals, or the clutch switch, or a couple of other things. Break out the wiring diagram and have at it.

                          Sorry to reopen the thread!

Did any of you find any permanent fixes for the cruise control problem? Mine hasn't been working since day one (yes, it definitely has it) but the connection to the module is perfect. I was wondering, how often does the actual cruise control switch go out?

I had a misaligned clutch switch in my manual sedan. There are two clutch switches (that's right Bray & White-hot, I dropped my under dash and checked ) and the switch closer to the driver was not making contact.

While driving, I was able to use the tip of my toes to pull the clutch pedal towards me (and hold it there) while using the stalk to set the speed . The pull created just enough force to make contact at the switch and the cruise control came online.
