New Country FTW by the way, Jeff from NEO says he goes there on a daily basis
sorry Josh. New Country may have helped you in this case, but they friggin blow. they had their rover franchise yanked for overwhelmingly poor customer service and now have resorted to full pages ads in the BMW CCA CT newsletter saying "we're starting to listen to our customers... we're not THAAAT BAD"
Asbestos, really? I guess I need to add a particle mask to my list.
True story bro.
Contrary to popular belief, Asbestos isn't outlawed or illegal, and there are no regulatory codes that prohibit it from being used products we currently buy as consumers. 30 years ago there *was* a law, but it was repealed soon after it was instated.
You can walk right into Home Depot and buy roofing material, caulking, or other materials with asbestos in them and not even know it. Some products that have ingredients labelled on the container will call asbestos fibers by a less well-known name such as "chrysotile mineral fibers", or "amosite mineral fibers" (2 sub-classifications of asbestos). Talk to any architect in the business today and most of them will tell you they do the homework on materials they specify for new construction because many clients (say, school systems) want a document from them insuring no ACM (asbestos-containing materials) substrates went into the building.
For our purposes, asbestos is alive and well in many car components such as exhaust gaskets, clutch disks, and brake pads. It's easy to clean up an exhaust flange by taking a wire wheel to it in order to remove the old gasket material. Guess what you're making airborne when you do that.
When dealing with materials that may have asbestos in them, you can minimize fiber release by wetting the material down before agitating it. For further protection, you can get an approved respirator at most hardware stores. Filters that will protect you from asbestos inhalation are called P100 dust and particulate filters and are magenta (purple) in color. 3M and North make decent masks and they're not that expensive.
Asbestos is completely chemically inert, and thus is not able to be digested by the defense mechanisms in your body that remove foreign material from your lungs. Inhaled fibers result in scarred lung tissue that steadily reduces lung functionally over time. Latency period for symptoms is between 20-40 years.
Stay safe guys.
EDIT:
Oh, BTW, i'm a state of CT licensed Asbestos Inspector, Asbestos Abatement Project Monitor, and Asbestos Risk assessor....hence the spewing of asbestos-related information.

Damn dude...you know way too much about everything.

they keep so little in stock it's appalling.
WORD!!
Not to mention they are 20% more expensive than any other stealer even with the CCA discount.
I wouldn't have even thought of them if i hadn't gone to Bridgeport and they specifically told that New Country was the only dealer that currently had them in stock

I dunno...they can't be worse than crevier here....$105 per muffler hanger!!!!!
Yeah, fawk that for real. I got 'em for $15 from pelican. Fkin dealers I was so pissed when they told me that price.
When you get them, make sure they have steel reinforcements in the red areas in the picture below. I have heard of pelican hangers being all rubber, you don't want that.
Pelican hangers are all rubber. I've received 2 separate orders of hangers from them like this and i'll never order another set from them again. In fact, as good as their website, inventory, and customer service is...I think i'm done ordering stuff from those guys. I'm just tired of going through the guesswork or whether of not i'm getting a part that's of comparable quality to the rest of the suppliers. very often, it's not the case with those guys.
I have hangers from Pelican on my exhaust now. It rocks back and forth like a seesaw. I went out and bought BMW hangers just because the Pelican ones were so flimsy.
pelican "project list" ftw. the only problem i've had so far with pelican is figuring out what they mean when they list a quantity of "1"--i.e. is it 1 set of x # of bolts/nuts/etc or is it only 1 bolt/nut/etc....i have 1, trans.<--guibo-->drv. shaft nut sitting in a box at my house right now...wtb 5 more
You're supposed to take the metal pieces from your OEM hangars off the car and put them on the Pelican pieces.....
I believe your talking about the bracket (#8), I'm taking about the hanger (#7) itself. Pelican sells hangers without a steel skeleton (i.e. all rubber), these are the wrong ones and will not last. Please refer to my picture. The correct hangers have steel encased in rubber in the areas where i drew the red lines.
